M2 Mac Mini is as fast as Apple’s $6000 Mac Pro

GregsGadgets shared two Geekbench 5 results on Twitter, showing the single-core and multi-core numbers for the M2 Mac mini and the Intel-based Mac Pro. To his and our surprise, the Mac mini not only outperforms the workstation in the single-core test, but it also easily outperforms it in the multi-core test.

These findings imply that customers or creative professionals seeking improved single-core and multi-core performance will no longer need to purchase an expensive Mac Pro. However, just because the M2 Mac mini outperforms the Mac Pro in Geekbench 5 does not guarantee that it will win in every benchmark or task is thrown it’s way; unfortunately, GregsGadgets has not posted any other results.

The only disadvantage of owning an M2 Mac mini is that you will have to stick with whatever configuration you buy now because the RAM, storage, and SoC are soldered to the logic board, which is the exact opposite of the Mac Pro.

Even with more RAM and storage, an upgraded Mac mini will still be less expensive than Apple’s current workstation, which is why Apple is aiming to replace it soon with a version that will allegedly tout the M2 Ultra, directly succeeding the M1 Ultra found in the Mac Studio.

This massive difference in pricing and performance could also explain why Apple charges customers a pittance to trade in their Mac Pro. We also recently learned that Apple’s trade-in value for a $52,000 Mac Pro is a shockingly low $970, which is less than the price of a 128GB iPhone 14 Pro. As a result, a Mac Mini appears to be a better option.

IBM falls under layoff spell and fires 3,900 employees

0

IBM Corp, like other tech behemoths, has joined the ‘layoff drive,’ firing 3,900 employees on Wednesday. According to the tech hub, the layoff drive was part of some asset divestments. The company has missed its annual cash target, putting a damper on hopes of exceeding revenue expectations in the fourth quarter.

Chief Financial Officer James Kavanaugh told that the company was still committed to hiring for client-facing research and development. IBM said in a statement that the layoffs are related to the spinoff of its Kyndryl business and a portion of its AI unit Watson Health.

According to Report, the layoffs will cost IBM Corp $300 million in the January-March period, and its shares fell 2% in extended trading. According to Jesse Cohen, senior analyst at Investing.com, the market appears to be disappointed by the size of the announced job cuts, which only accounted for 1.5% of the workforce.

IBM’s cash flow in 2022 was $9.3 billion, falling short of its target of $10 billion due to higher-than-expected working capital requirements.

The company also forecasts that annual revenue growth will be in the mid-single digits in constant currency terms, down from the 12% reported last year, as pandemic-driven demand for digitising businesses has given way to cautious spending by clients amid rising recession fears.

It also reported softness in new bookings in Western Europe in October, while peer Accenture Plc reported weakness in its consulting business, according to Reports. The fourth-quarter growth of IBM’s software and consulting businesses slowed sequentially, but cloud spending was a bright spot, with deal signings doubling in 2022 for setting up services with partners such as Amazon.com’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure.

In the quarter ended December 31, its hybrid cloud revenue increased by 2%. However, its total revenue was flat in the period, at $16.69 billion, compared to analysts’ estimates of $16.40 billion, according to Refinitiv.

Renault rumored to launch its Next-Generation Duster in India soon

The next generation Renault Duster, based on the heavily localised CMF-B platform, is expected to arrive in India in 2024-25. Renault India is rumoured to be planning to launch the next generation of their Duster model in 2024 or 2025, with an estimated investment of $500 million. This investment will enable the company to diversify its portfolio and bring the CMF-B platform to the domestic market with a high level of locally sourced components.

In addition to the new Duster, the French manufacturer is expected to launch a seven-seater midsize SUV based on the Bigster concept. The adaptability of the architecture widely used in Europe today may allow for the development of an electric version in the distant future.

In order to achieve economies of scale, Renault’s collaboration with Nissan will be critical in the development of these new models.

The second-generation Renault Duster will go up against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, VW Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq when it arrives.

The CMF-B platform will be modified for use in India and other emerging markets, but specific powertrain options for the new Duster are unknown. Renault’s current lineup includes a 1.0-litre three-cylinder NA petrol and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with manual and AMT transmission options.

The Duster’s production ended nearly a year ago at its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, and it really set the tone for Renault by creating a premium brand image for nearly a decade. Renault will most likely import global models via CBU until the next-generation Duster arrives.

Tesla reports record Revenue in 2022 with record EV sales

0

Tesla finished 2022 on a high note, helped by recent price cuts for its lineup of electric sedans and SUVs. The automaker’s full-year 2022 earnings statement, which was released at the end of the market on Wednesday, revealed that it delivered 405,278 electric vehicles in the fourth quarter, up from 343,830 in the previous quarter. This brings Tesla’s total deliveries in 2022 to 1.31 million cars, a record high for the brand and 40% year on year growth, but also just short of the company’s own goal of 1.4 million deliveries.

According to Tesla’s earnings report, the average sale price of its vehicles has “generally been on a downward trajectory for many years.” The automaker cut prices on its electric car lineup by up to 20% late last year, partly due to lower demand, but also to keep the Model 3 and Model Y under the $55,000 qualification cap for the $7,500 electric sedan federal tax credit included in last year’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Investors were not thrilled with the price reductions, but Elon Musk argued that more affordable Teslas are a good thing.

According to the automaker, the average price of a Tesla has been cut in half between 2017 and 2022 and will most likely continue to fall. This is partly due to price reductions, but it is also due to the less expensive Models 3 and Y now accounting for the majority of Tesla’s production and deliveries. In 2018, they accounted for slightly more than half of Tesla’s 254,530 sales; today, they account for roughly 95% of the 1.31 million Tesla vehicles sold in 2022.

Despite the falling average transaction price, Tesla said it improved its operating margins from a negative 14% to a positive 17% from 2017 to 2022, citing the same shift to lower-cost models as well as its investment in localised, more efficient factories. Tesla announced a new $3.6 billion investment in its Nevada Gigafactory earlier this week, adding two new factories to the facility: A 100GWh factory will produce enough battery cells for up to 1.5 million light duty electric vehicles per year. Meanwhile, Tesla’s full-electric commercial truck will be manufactured in a high-volume Semi factory.

Barcelona unable to register Gavi on a new contract for their first team

0

Barcelona are facing a new problem in registering their players – with Gavi’s new contract the latest issue. The club doesn’t have the finances to register the youngster on his new deal, with improved wages.

One would have expected this to not be the case considering Memphis Depay left to join Atletico Madrid. Alongside him, Gerard Pique retired in November which must have freed up more room on the wage bill. But, the club still don’t have the means to go through with it.

Barcelona struggling to register Gavi on his new contract

Amidst rumours that the teenage sensation might leave through his €50 million release clause, Barcelona were able to extend his contract for the future. A €1 billion release clause was also interested in his deal to prevent other clubs from signing him.

Although Barcelona are much closer to the 1/1 rule in place in La Liga, they might need to wait until the summer to register their existing players. Ronald Araujo’s new deal is also not officially registered yet, which puts the club in a difficult situation.

Although both players are very committed to the project in place at the club, it would be better to have them fully registered. The inability to register Gavi has also prevented him from taking Xavi’s number 6 shirt, as he currently wears the number 30.

Considering they don’t have the bandwidth to register their existing players, it seems out of the question that they will be able to get new players. The situation might not change in the summer in terms of arrivals, unless there are some major sales.

European Super League to have 50 teams as part of new plans

0

The European Super League plans were seemingly shelved, with most of the clubs pulling out only days after the initial plans were revealed.

Last year, though, three big European clubs decided to carry on with the original plans. Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid have been very vocal about their desire to carry on with the plans that they originally had. And now, new information about the proposed league has come to light.

European Super League to have 50 teams

Earlier, one of the main criticisms of the plans was the importance given to the ‘Big Clubs’ in Europe. Now, however, the plans have changed to represent 12 countries from the continent and the tournament will consist of 50 teams

Countries like Portugal, Denmark and Netherlands will all be represented in the European Super League’s new format. But, it will be based on a system of ‘meritocracy’.

Juventus’ recent issues have proved to be a point to pounce upon for UEFA. Their entire board, including president Andrea Agnelli, resigned due to the false accounting investigation. The club have been handed a 15-point deduction in Serie A for their actions.

And now, the promises of a bigger prize money pool seem to have attracted more scepticism. Barcelona and Real Madrid remain committed to the cause, and have not given up in their pursuit of the Super League. They maintain that it is the only way to ‘save football’, even though it would mean the removal of the Champions League.

Indian football team confirm participation in Merdeka Cup 2023

India will be participating in the Merdeka Cup later this year, as confirmed by the Secretary General of the AIFF.

The tournament was established in 1957, and has been dubbed a mini-Asia Cup. Countries across Asia sent their full senior teams to compete, which added further to the prestige of the competition. The Merdeka Cup was held annually between 1957 and 1988. After that point, it’s popularity declined before it was dissolved in 2013. And after a decade away, it is finally set to restart later this year.

India to participate in the 2023 Merdeka Cup later this year

“When we were in Malaysia a few months back, it was finalised that India will be part of the Merdeka Cup whenever it happens. Suddenly some fake news resulted in confusion. So, they (Malaysian FA) iterated recently that India will be there,” Shaji Prabhakaran told Sportstar

“Merdeka has an emotional connection with India. Whenever we participated in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, it took the flag higher. And so, when Merdeka starts again, we would like to be there and give more competitive exposure to our players. And that way our team can also grow,” the Secretary General added.

The details of the tournament have not been announced as of yet, and it is expected to be held in September.

Who will become the new Everton manager after Frank Lampard’s dismissal?

0

Everton sacked Frank Lampard after their worst start to a season, following which they are second last in the table. They have 15 points, the same as bottom-placed Southampton, and are only ahead on goal difference for the time being.

Farhad Moshiri has also put up the club for sale, after protests from the fans themselves saying that theirs is the worst run club in the division.

Who will become the new Everton manager?

Marcelo Bielsa has been linked with the job, having been out of management since leaving Leeds United. Former Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuttl and former Burnley manager Sean Dyche have both been rumoured as potential appointments for the Toffees.

There has also been interest in Brentford boss Thomas Frank, but the Dane is not interested in leaving his current project.

Bielsa is the favourite for Moshiri, who wants a new manager in place as soon as possible. However, his team will cost £1 million per month, which comes as a non-negotiable part of the package. So, a deal to bring the Argentinian back to England might prove to be a difficult one to carry out.

Ralph Hassenhuttl has shown that he can implement an interesting style of play, and get results. On the other hand, Dyche could also use a breath of fresh air with a team like Everton that actively spends to strengthen their line-up.

The likes of Nuno Espirito Santo, Wayne Rooney, and Carlos Corberan also have an outside chance at being named the new managers of the club.
