TCL teases its new Next-Gen 98-Inch 4K 240Hz Gaming TV at the CES 2023

TCL has unveiled a new generation of mini-LED and QLED “large screens” to hit the market in Spring 2023, in line with its belief that TVs of at least 65 inches are the future. However, given its CES 2023 debut, some consumers may be tempted to wait for something even bigger and bolder.

TCL promises that its flagship QM8 will have twice the peak brightness of its best Mini LED TVs by 2022. The largest QM8 will have over 2,300 dimming zones and will be available in screen sizes ranging from 65 to 98 inches. TCL claims that’s more than any other 4K Mini LED TV on the market — and even more than 8K models. The QM8 has Wi-Fi 6 and an integrated subwoofer for powerful audio. With a “bezel-less” design and a height-adjustable stand, the design has been refreshed.

TCL’s CES 2023 expo includes the “world’s highest PPI” (1700) Real RGB LCD-VR panel, which is joined by the 65-inch 8K “wide-view optical field display,” which is marketed as a potentially more comfortable alternative to “heavy” glasses.

Aside from its brighter picture, faster Wi-Fi, and louder sound, the QM8 will share many core features with the lower-priced Q7, though you’ll miss out on Mini LED and have to settle for regular full-array local dimming.

The QM7 supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and IMAX Enhance. Both the QM8 and Q7 come with a backlit voice remote, but they also have hands-free voice controls via integrated far-field microphones. Surprisingly, both of these models will run Google TV; TCL has yet to announce Roku TV versions. They both also support Dolby Vision IQ.

TCL claims that its Q7 panel, despite being a native 60Hz panel, can do the same trick as the higher models and double that in VRR, reaching up to 120Hz. It still has quantum dot colour and a similar design to the more expensive models. TCL will sell the Q6 in sizes ranging from 50 to 75 inches.

TCL’s Q-Series monitors will be available in the coming months, but don’t expect the company’s current monitors to disappear anytime soon. TCL has sold over 25 million TVs in the United States alone over the last four years, with its well-known Roku TV and Google TV models playing a significant role.

AMD presented their full new laptop product lineup this week at CES 2023, including their very first mobile RDNA3 GPUs and Zen4 CPUs. Furthermore, the business announced new Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs, including the highly anticipated 3D V-Cache variants. What was lacking at CES 2023 was an update to the desktop GPU product stack, which is now limited to two expensive RX 7900 variants.

Minisforum UM733 Venus is the world’s first AMD Ryzen 7000-powered Mini-PC

Minisforum has just released the UM733 Venus Series Mini PC, the first to support the AMD Ryzen 7000 CPU, and the Ryzen 7 7735HS. AMD recently introduced its new Ryzen 7000 Mobility CPU range, and Minisforum is now taking pre-orders for its latest Venus UM733 Mini PC.

The Mini PC is a somewhat improved version of the UM690 and the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS CPU, which is part of the Rembrandt-R (Refresh) family, powers the Minisforum UM733. As a result, the CPU is extremely comparable to the Ryzen 9 6900HX that we received with our UM690 Mini PC.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS CPU has eight cores, sixteen threads, sixteen megabytes of L3 cache, and four megabytes of L2 cache. The CPU uses a 6nm fabrication node and is based on the Zen 3+ core architecture. It operates at 3.2 GHz base frequency and 4.75 GHz boost frequency, which is significantly lower than the Ryzen 9 6900HS. The CPU has a TDP of 35-45W and a Radeon 680M iGPU with 12 Compute Units that runs at 2200 MHz, which is 200 MHz slower than the 6900HS.

The Minisforum UM733’s I/O is rock strong, with two HDMI ports, a USB4 port, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, and four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports.

A 2.5G Ethernet LAN port, a CMOS switch, and a 3.5 mm combo jack are also included. The power is supplied through the DC 19V adaptor. In terms of speed, the new AMD Ryzen 7735HS CPU will provide excellent single and multi-threaded performance, while the Radeon 680M GPU is more than capable of running practically all of today’s titles at a fair frame rate with reasonable quality settings.

The Minisforum UM733 Mini PC’s other characteristics are uncomplicated, with a metal chassis that contains a 120-fin heatsink with heat pipes and an active cooling fan to keep the PC cool. The UM733 is available as a barebone or with a 16 GB DDR5-4800+512 GB SSD combination. There is no information on pricing yet, but it should cost approximately $550-$700 US, same to the UM690.

NVIDIA might be reportedly planning the production of RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti based on AD104 ‘Ada’ GPUs

NVIDIA appears to be preparing to begin mass production on two brand new AD104 GPUs, probably for the Geforce RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti. NVIDIA appears to be developing two additional GPU SKUs for its upcoming GeForce RTX 40 Desktop portfolio. These SKUs are built on the AD104 die, the same design that powers the recently released GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, and while that uses the fully enabled chip, these new dies will be drastically reduced.

We have the NVIDIA AD104-250 and AD104-251 processors. The RTX 4070 Ti die is the AD104-400-A1, so you can estimate how much of a cut-down chip we might be getting.

It’s worth noting that the chip designation 251/250 suggests that both will be fairly similarly constructed, though this remains to be seen. The AD104-250 GPU will use the PG14 SKU 343 PCB, but the AD104-251 GPU will use the PG141 SKU 345 PCB. The NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4070 Ti is likewise built on the PG141 (SKU 331) PCB, which means AIB partners won’t have to put in a lot of effort to develop the new chips.

Furthermore, both GPUs are rumoured to have a 200W TGP, but that could change. In terms of production, the AD104-250 GPU SKU will be the first to go into mass production in the second half of February, followed by the AD104-251 SKU in the second half of March. There is no current shelf date for each card, however it is expected to be in the second half of 2023, around Computex 2023.

Previous leaks have stated that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 will have 5888 CUDA cores, 12 GB GDDR6X VRAM clocked at 21 Gbps, 36 MB of L2 cache, and a 250W TGP, while the RTX 4060 Ti was speculated to include the AD106 GPU, which may or may not happen. The information we obtained was relatively recent, so it is likely that the older specs were correct as well, but a lot has happened since then, such as the discontinuation of the RTX 4080 12 GB, which was renamed the 4070 Ti.

MSI may be underwhelmed by NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080 pricing, but they recommend the RTX 4070 Ti as a better deal. The MSRP for the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 GPU was $1,199.99 when it was announced. The price has not lowered since its release, which is surprising given that AMD released its graphics card series at a lower price than its competitors. On Twitter, the business promoted the new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, saying that the graphics card is “not as awful as a 4080!”

The problem stems from the fact that price has yet to begin to fall, and stock is not moving. Other graphics cards’ prices are continuing to fall in various areas, including the United States and Europe, so it stands to reason that NVIDIA would want to be aggressive with pricing during the first half of the year.

However, both AMD and NVIDIA have had product problems in recent months. Temperature issues have been reported with AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards, causing throttling and reducing performance.

MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti series prices currently range from $839 for the Ventus 3X OC to $899 or somewhat higher for the Gaming X Trio GPU (depending on the seller) to $900+ for the premium SUPRIM series graphics cards. Google finally upgrades its Android Auto with new Features

Google has officially released an upgraded version of Android Auto, which leaked about a year ago before making its debut in May at Google I/O 2022. The upgrade was also in public beta for nearly two months, but a blog post reveals that it has now attained stable status. Unfortunately, some functionality is restricted to specific devices, despite the fact that its redesigned design should be platform-neutral.

Google says in the same blog post that Android Auto now always displays Google Maps on the driver’s side, ostensibly to emphasise navigation. Previously, it was possible to move between apps on select wide-screen in-car monitors.

Furthermore, Android Auto has been given a Material You makeover, as well as better Google Assistant capability for making intelligent suggestions. Even better, you can now tap the progress bar to jump to a specific point in a song or podcast within the media viewer.

Google has, for some reason, left this capability out of Android Auto until now.

Separately, after installing the update, owners of the Samsung Galaxy and Pixel 7 series can make WhatsApp calls within Android Auto; presumably, this capability will ultimately be available to other handsets.

Furthermore, Google has expanded its digital auto key-sharing functionality to some Samsung cellphones, with some Xiaomi smartphones following suit later this year. Currently, Android Auto’s digital vehicle key is more or less a BMW exclusive, but Google plans to expand this across other car models in the future, though no date has been provided.

AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPUs are now on sale at multiple stores ahead of their official retail debut on January 10th. The retail embargo for AMD Ryzen 7000 Non-X CPUs, including the Ryzen 9 7900, Ryzen 7 7700, and Ryzen 5 7600, does not lift until next Tuesday (10th January), although shops have begun retail activity. Here are a couple of the vendors who have already listed these CPUs, including Newegg Canada and Athema UK.

AMD introduced three new Ryzen 7000 Non-X Desktop CPU models: the Ryzen 9 7900 with 12 cores, the Ryzen 7 7700 with 8 cores, and the Ryzen 5 7600 with 6 cores. The three new models will use the Zen 4 core architecture and have a TDP of 65W, which is significantly lower than the ‘X’ parts, while maintaining the same core combinations and Zen 4 core architecture.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7900 processor will have 12 cores, 24 threads, 76 MB of cache (64 MB L3 + 12 MB L3), and a maximum clock speed of 5.4 GHz.

The CPU will cost $429 USD, which is $120 USD more than the Ryzen 9 7900X. While the base clock remains unknown, the boost clock has been reduced by 200 MHz, but given the price point, this 12-core processor looks great, and I can already see a lot of people upgrading to this sub-$500 US 12-Core Zen 4 chip. AMD will place the processor alongside the Intel Core i9-13900 and Core i9-12900 CPUs.

The Ryzen 7 7700 comes next, with 8 cores, 16 threads, 40 MB of cache (32 MB L3 + 8 MB L3), and a maximum clock speed of up to 5.3 GHz. The CPU will cost $329 USD, which is $70 USD less than the Ryzen 7 7700X, which costs $399 USD. Given its 65W power budget, the Ryzen 7 7700 appears to be clocked just 100 MHz lower than the Ryzen 7 7700X. Given the 1.375x multiplier for the PPT, the total TDP should be approximately 90-100W. The Ryzen 7 7700 will compete with the Core i7-13700 and Core i7-12700 processors.

Finally, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 will have 6 cores, 12 threads, 38 MB of cache (32 MB L3 + 6 MB L2), and a maximum clock speed of up to 5.1 GHz. The CPU will cost $229 USD, which is $70 USD less than the Ryzen 5 7600X, which costs $299 USD. The boost clock of the ‘X’ chip is 200 MHz slower. The Ryzen 5 7600 will compete with the Core i5-13600 and Core i5-12600 CPUs.
