Netflix Series — Briefly Reviewed

1. Adolescence — The undisputed #1. Stephen Graham’s 4-episode crime drama follows a 12-year-old schoolboy accused of murder. Every episode was filmed entirely in one take — no cuts, no breaks — making it one of the most intense and intimate viewing experiences in Netflix history. Even the UK government cited it as important viewing. If you watch only one series, make it this.
2. American Primeval — A masterful 6-episode western set in 1857 during the Utah War. Betty Gilpin stars as a mother fleeing her past across the brutal American West. Gripping, raw, and emotionally complete — it doesn’t leave you hanging on loose ends.
3. Monster: The Ed Gein Story — Ryan Murphy returns with the third installment of his acclaimed biographical crime anthology. Charlie Hunnam plays Ed Gein, the real-life killer who inspired Norman Bates and Leatherface. Dark, disturbing, and compulsively watchable.

4. Zero Day — Robert De Niro plays a former US President pulled out of retirement to investigate a devastating cyber attack. A 6-episode political thriller co-created by Noah Oppenheim with a stellar ensemble including Jesse Plemons and Joan Allen.
5. Apple Cider Vinegar — A biting dark comedy about two women who build social media empires out of fake wellness remedies — loosely inspired by the real-life Belle Gibson scandal. Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us) is magnetic in this Instagram-era cautionary tale.
6. The Beast in Me — Claire Danes is electrifying as a grieving author who becomes obsessed with proving her wealthy neighbour (Matthew Rhys) killed his wife. A slow-burn psychological thriller that earns every twist.

7. Death by Lightning — A 4-episode political drama following the rise and assassination of US President James Garfield (Michael Shannon). Based on a 2011 novel, it earned a superb 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and stands as one of Netflix’s most underrated gems of the year.
8. Black Rabbit — Jude Law and Jason Bateman play brothers in a gripping NYC crime drama. When a restaurant owner’s brother falls into trouble with loan sharks, both men get pulled into the dangerous New York underground. Dark, stylish, and binge-worthy.

9. Toxic Town — The true story of mothers in Corby, England, whose babies were born with disabilities due to industrial pollution from a demolished steelworks. Jodie Whittaker and Aimee Lou Wood lead a heartbreaking, necessary drama that deserved far more global attention.
10. Sirens — A dark comedy with a cult-like pull, starring Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock. A lavish island estate, elite socialites harbouring dark secrets, and two sisters at the centre of it all — this is the perfect White Lotus alternative.
