Barcelona is considering selling three ‘untouchable’ players to fund new arrivals

Barcelona’s financial condition has made operating in the transfer market incredibly tough. The Catalans dipped their toes in the free-agent pool this summer but were unable to hold on to superstar Lionel Messi.

Going into the January window, things don’t appear to be getting much better. While it is evident that the squad requires reinforcements in several areas, the Blaugrana are unable to do so immediately. According to Cadena SER, they would have to create a way for newcomers by unloading some of their present stars.

While it’s understandable that Barcelona would want to get rid of marginal players like Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho, who are also paid astronomically, the report identifies a few more surprising names who could be allowed to leave.

Barcelona may be willing to split ways with Sergio Dest and Clement Lenglet to bring in and register new players, according to reports. Apart from the duo, it’s been suggested that other of the club’s ‘untouchable’ superstar players could be sold to help raise finances to enhance the roster.

A Crucial Transfer for Barcelona

According to the source, Ronald Araujo, who has been one of Barcelona’s top players this season, Frenkie de Jong, and long-time first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen are three players who could be shown the exit doors to raise funds that can be re-invested in the club.

Araujo has recently attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs, and the same can be said for Frenkie de Jong. Ter Stegen, on the other hand, has long been connected with a return to Germany, where Bayern Munich is looking for a replacement for Manuel Neuer.

However, it’s difficult to see any such high-profile movements in January. Nonetheless, Barcelona may be facing a crucial transfer window that will shake things up at Camp Nou for good.
