Barbie Hsu Death: A Look at Her Turbulent Relationship with Wang Xiaofei Before DJ Koo Marriage

Barbie Hsu Death!

For many, her claim to fame was her breakout role in Meteor Garden, but just as dramatic as her on-screen romances was her off-screen dynamic with ex-husband Wang Xiaofei. In the wake of her passing, recollections of their public feud have cropped up once again. Here’s a sensitive look at the final chapter of Barbie Hsu’s life, her complex relationship with Wang, and the whirlwind that eventually led her to remarry DJ Koo.

Barbie Hsu Death : Remembering an Icon from Meteor Garden

Barbie Hsu wasn’t just any actress—she became a cultural phenomenon practically overnight when Meteor Garden first aired, capturing hearts through her portrayal of an everyday girl who dares to love a wealthy heartthrob. This drama introduced her to fans across Asia who grew enamored with her vivacious energy. Over the years, she also ventured into various entertainment formats, hosting and occasionally delving into music. But even as her star soared, she consciously kept much of her personal life behind closed doors—at least until events forced her hand.

The entertainment scene reeled in early 2025 when news of her death surfaced. Speculations abounded, but her close friends simply shared that she had not been in good health. The suddenness of her demise—especially as she was only in her late 40s—continued to stun audiences both domestically and abroad.

The Wang Xiaofei Era: Marriage, Divorce, and Disputes

Barbie Hsu’s relationship with Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei seemed idyllic at first. The two married in 2011, merging showbiz sparkle with entrepreneurial flair. For a time, they were one of Asia’s most talked-about celeb power couples. Yet just a decade later, the facade cracked: in 2021, the two announced an official split, citing irreconcilable differences.

Though divorces can be private, Barbie’s parting from Wang Xiaofei quickly went public. Why? Once the papers were signed, disagreements about financial obligations, alimony payments, and child custody spilled onto social media. Barbie filed legal action against Wang, accusing him of neglecting his financial responsibilities and sharing personal details about their children—like their address and bank account information—online without consent. She also revealed how exasperated she was by unsubstantiated claims of her unfaithfulness and alleged substance abuse, which Wang sometimes posted.

Meanwhile, Wang Xiaofei alleged that he continued paying utility bills for Barbie’s residence well after their separation. He frequently voiced outrage over disputes like child support and property ownership. At one point, he not only accused her of improper usage of finances but claimed she’d engaged in drug use, prompting a swirl of rumors.

Barbie Hsu’s Side: Speaking Up Despite Silence

For a woman who typically avoided public scandal, having her personal life dragged across social media was a jolt. Initially, Barbie Hsu kept her responses measured and legal. However, she eventually decided to break silence—offering strong rebuttals to Wang Xiaofei’s allegations. She released documents proving she had funded two disputed properties, and shared what she claimed was a handwritten note from Wang acknowledging an NT$26 million debt he’d borrowed and repaid by 2018.

In a notable statement, she asserted, “You were the one having an affair, not me.” She also admitted to using Wang’s credit card a few times out of anger but insisted nothing was authorized without his knowledge. Barbie further alleged that Wang had been physically abusive and had even pushed her sister, Dee Hsu, during a drunken outburst. Wang sharply refuted these claims, counter-accusing her of erratic, violent behavior.

Enter DJ Koo: A Swift, Surprising Second Chance

Though still reeling from a decade of emotional upheaval, Barbie Hsu stunned fans in March 2022 by marrying South Korean musician Koo Jun Yup—better known as DJ Koo—just four months after parting ways with Wang Xiaofei. Their decision to tie the knot so quickly left many watchers curious about how it happened. Yet for her, this second marriage seemed to represent a fresh start. Friends and insiders mentioned that it offered her relief after years of prolonged turbulence.

A Legacy Remembered

Tragically, Barbie Hsu wouldn’t live long enough to fully enjoy this new chapter. Her death created an outpouring of tributes from fans who’d grown up with her classic dramas, admired her comedic variety shows, and even respected her resilience through intense personal strife. As the Mariah Carey ballad goes, “There can be miracles when you believe,” and for a time, Barbie embodied that uplifting sentiment: forging a path in the entertainment industry, facing adversity in her private life, and bravely continuing forward.

With her passing, many revisit her final years, remembering not just the turbulence but also the grace she tried to maintain in public. In life, she was admired for her talent; in death, she is mourned for a spirit that continues to touch hearts.

Conclusions

In the end, the phrase “gone too soon” might best summarize the life and death of Barbie Hsu. Despite the tumult with her ex-husband, she forged ahead, even finding a chance at renewed happiness before leaving this world. It is that spirit—her unwavering desire to stand by her truths and chase her personal version of happiness—that neither time nor tragedy can ever erase.
