What the Awarapan 2 Trailer Reveals

The story follows Shivam after his resurrection at a Buddhist monastery as he attempts to balance redemption, love, and a return to the crime world. The trailer opens with Shivam being tortured, as Shabana Azmi’s character taunts him, “What a beautiful face. Do you like meeting with death?” To which Hashmi delivers the chilling response, “I have an old relation with death.”

The trailer opens with a scene in which Shivam is seen hanging from a pole in heavy rain with a metal rod pierced through his chest, immediately setting the brutal tone that defines this sequel.

A Darker, More Broken Shivam

Emraan Hashmi returns as an older and more broken Shivam, who is still carrying the pain of losing Aaliyah, played by Shriya Saran in the first film. The makers describe his comeback dramatically: “Shivam Pandit is back! Nineteen years after he first broke hearts and took on the world, he returns carrying more pain, more rage, and a purpose that cannot be stopped.”

One of the trailer’s most striking moments shows Shivam being treated by a group of monks after suffering serious injuries, before he’s shown walking alongside them, hinting at his path toward spiritual redemption before the story pulls him back into violence.

New Additions to the Franchise

Disha Patani joins the sequel as Zara, adding a new dimension to Shivam’s journey, though her exact role remains shrouded in mystery. The supporting cast also includes Puran Gabbi as Zorawar, Anirudh Rawal as Sikandar, Surendar Vicky as Jaideep, Vijayant Kohli as Mehmood, and Atul Kumar as Samarth.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi’s casting as the antagonist Nafisa adds significant gravitas, bringing a formidable presence that contrasts sharply with Hashmi’s weathered, world-weary Shivam.

Music Remains the Franchise’s Soul

True to the Awarapan legacy, music remains central to the sequel, with the soundtrack composed by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Malik, Ankit Sachdev, and Wasif Ahmad, and lyrics penned by Sayeed Qadri, Rashmi Virag, Akhil Sachdeva, and Sachin Singh Chandel. Songs including Ve Junoon, Yeh Awarapan and Toh Phir Aao have already been released, continuing the franchise’s tradition of soulful, emotionally resonant soundtracks that made the original unforgettable.

Why the Original Still Resonates

Released in 2007 and directed by Mohit Suri, Awarapan gained cult status over the years for its emotional storytelling, Emraan Hashmi’s performance, and its soundtrack, which included popular songs such as Toh Phir Aao, Tera Mera Rishta, and Maula Maula. That legacy sets an incredibly high bar for the sequel, but early trailer reactions suggest the team understands exactly what fans expect.

A Physically Demanding Comeback

Hashmi’s dedication to reprising Shivam wasn’t without cost—reports indicate he suffered a serious injury during an intense action sequence while filming and underwent surgery before returning to set under a carefully monitored schedule, underscoring just how committed the actor is to doing justice to this beloved character.

Final Thoughts

The Awarapan 2 trailer successfully recaptures the franchise’s signature blend of raw emotion, brooding intensity, and haunting music while introducing fresh faces and higher stakes. Describing the film’s tone, the makers promise it will be “dark, intense and relentlessly cinematic,” and based on this first look, that promise feels well within reach.

With its August 14 release fast approaching, Awarapan 2 is shaping up to be one of the most emotionally charged Bollywood comebacks of the year.
