Awarapan 2 Distribution Deal Sealed — Emraan Hashmi’s Comeback Film Just Got Its Biggest Power Move Yet

Awarapan 2: Everything You Need to Know at a Glance

Why This Deal Matters?

Pen Marudhar isn’t just any distributor — they’ve built a strong reputation navigating high-profile Bollywood box office clashes in recent years. That experience is exactly what Awarapan 2 needs, since it goes head-to-head with Lahore 1947 (reportedly titled Batwara 1947) on Independence Day weekend 2026, one of the most competitive release windows of the year.

The distribution arm of Pen Studios is expected to ensure a wide, aggressive release for the film, giving it the best shot at holding its own in a crowded marketplace.

From Box Office Dud to Cult Classic — The Awarapan Journey

Here’s the thing most people forget: the original Awarapan (2007) was a commercial disaster on release. But over time, through satellite airings and digital platforms, it quietly became a cult romantic film beloved by the masses. That organic, word-of-mouth love story is exactly what Emraan Hashmi’s team is banking on with the sequel.

In the film distribution business, sequels to cult classics carry a unique emotional pull — much like how film distribution strategy increasingly relies on pre-built audience loyalty to drive opening weekend numbers.

Emraan Hashmi’s Biggest Comeback?

2025 saw the Hindi film industry deliver several surprise romantic hits riding on soulful music albums. Awarapan 2 is positioned squarely in that lane. If the film lands well with audiences, industry insiders believe it could be Emraan Hashmi’s biggest box office win in years — ending a lengthy drought of a clean, undisputed hit.
