Mundfish has officially announced Atomic Heart II during Summer Game Fest 2025, revealing the sequel to their critically acclaimed retrofuturistic action RPG from 2023. It is anticipated to release in 2026 and will be on PC and next-gen consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Atomic Heart II Officially Announced, Coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S with Expanded RPG Features

Building upon the alternate-history universe established in the original, Atomic Heart II expands its narrative to a global scale. Players will be able to delve into a world that is on the edge of collapse, as advanced robotics and AI technologies that were created by man to help in a time of peace have gone out of control. The second game is much more RPG-focused, allowing the player more freedom and dropping them into a world that’s big on imaginative and detailed worldbuilding. Mundfish featured broad descriptions of some of the game’s features.

The narrative assiduously holds the lore while introducing familiar and new faces to shape new insights into the changing game world. The RPG system has been further developed to offer a living world, which is full of various activities, so players may experience different types of gameplay. Battle has also been improved, with players now able to utilize all-new fistcuff combat alongside degrees of both freedom and aggression never before seen in the series, while also being able to take advantage of sideline combat abilities along with all-new brawl and SWAT tactics.

The first teaser showcased many new locales, with some of them bringing you into the thick of things more than ever before, and newer, and seemingly more diverse, instruments of death, pointing towards a far wider and more ambitious game than its predecessor. While a release date has yet to be announced, Atomic Heart II can now be wishlisted on Steam, which seems to confirm its launch on PC platforms.

In addition to Atomic Heart II, Mundfish also revealed The Cube, a multiplayer shooter RPG set within the same universe, further expanding the “Atomic Universe.” For fans of the original game, Atomic Heart II promises to deliver a more ambitious experience with improved storytelling, gameplay, and world-building that pushes the genre’s boundaries.
