ASUS Unveils a Monitor That Refuses to Pick Just One Refresh Rate

Most gaming monitors force you to choose: sharp and slow, or blurry-fast. ASUS just launched one that says you don’t have to. The new ROG Godlike 27 Plus switches between three resolutions and three refresh rates on the same panel — a genuine first for this category.

Godlike 27 Plus Monitor: The Triple-Mode Breakdown

Unveiled in China as part of ASUS’s ROG 20th Anniversary lineup, the Godlike 27 Plus uses a 27-inch Fast IPS panel that can be switched between these three modes depending on what you’re playing — crisp 4K for single-player and cinematic titles, or a scaled-down 488Hz mode for competitive shooters where every millisecond of latency matters.

Why This Beats the “One Mode” Crowd

Dual-mode monitors — switching between just two resolutions — have existed for a while, including in ASUS’s own ROG Strix lineup. What makes the Godlike 27 Plus stand out is the third tier: rather than a straight jump from 4K to 1080p, it adds a genuinely useful QHD/400Hz middle ground, giving competitive players a sharper option than full HD without dropping all the way to 240Hz.

It’s also a smarter trade-off than some recent competing panels. Philips has shown monitors hitting 540Hz, but only at a much lower 1280×720 resolution — a specification that looks impressive on paper but delivers a noticeably softer image. ASUS’s 488Hz mode, by comparison, holds a full 1080p, which should mean sharper visuals even in its fastest setting.

Where This Fits ASUS’s Broader Lineup

ASUS didn’t launch this in isolation — it’s part of a wider anniversary refresh that also included a PC controller with an 8K polling rate, signalling the company is pushing hard on ultra-responsive gaming peripherals across the board this year. What’s Missing: Pricing and Global Availability

ASUS has only confirmed this for the Chinese market so far, with no word yet on international pricing or a wider release timeline. Given ASUS’s history of eventually bringing ROG anniversary hardware to global markets, a broader launch wouldn’t be surprising — just not guaranteed yet.

The Takeaway

The Godlike 27 Plus is a smart answer to a genuine gamer dilemma: sharpness versus speed. Instead of picking a side, ASUS built a monitor that adapts to whichever you need that day. Whether it reaches markets outside China remains the open question.
