Backed by T-Series Films and Benaras Mediaworks, Assi should see some growth over the second weekend, potentially adding Rs. 1.75 to Rs. 2 crore, taking its total to around Rs. 8 crore. Based on current trends, the film is heading to conclude its theatrical run somewhere around the Rs. 10 crore nett mark — which doesn’t take it anywhere meaningful.

For context, the previous collaboration between Anubhav Sinha and Taapsee Pannu — Thappad — debuted with Rs. 2.75 crore and collected Rs. 13.50 crore in its opening weekend alone, eventually ending around Rs. 30 crore nett. Assi is clearly falling well short of that benchmark.

The film deserved better. Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom performances are always gripping, and Anubhav Sinha’s films rarely lack emotional depth or intent.
