Ashley Noffke Resigns as Pakistan Bowling Coach for Netherlands Head Coach Role

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Ashley Noffke made a decisive career move that reshapes the coaching landscape for two international cricket programs. The 49-year-old Australian has officially stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball bowling coach after 16 months to take over as head coach of the Netherlands men’s team.

The move arrives with both teams preparing for major qualification assignments. Pakistan must now find a replacement in its bowling department, while the Netherlands have handed their next phase to a coach whose contract runs through 2028.

Ashley Noffke leaves Pakistan for Netherlands role

The Pakistan Cricket Board has been informed of the resignation, and the board has already advertised for a new bowling coach. The decision ends Noffke’s Pakistan coaching tenure and creates an immediate vacancy in a specialist role ahead of the team’s next white-ball commitments.

Reports indicate the Netherlands appointment is a two-year agreement that will run through the end of 2028. Noffke’s final assignment with Pakistan is the 2026 Asian Games. > The Netherlands appointment gives Noffke responsibility for both the 2027 ODI World Cup and 2028 T20 World Cup qualification campaigns. That brief is wider than his previous position. In Pakistan, his work was focused on bowling support within the white-ball setup; in the Netherlands, he will oversee the men’s team as head coach and shape the wider campaign plan. For more detail, see BBC Sport.

Why the Netherlands chose Ashley Noffke

The Netherlands are moving on from Ryan Cook, who is stepping back from the head coach position to spend more time with his family. His departure created an opening at a time when the Dutch side faces two important qualification targets.

The 2027 ODI World Cup and 2028 T20 World Cup campaigns will define the early part of Noffke’s contract. The Netherlands job therefore carries a clear performance brief, with qualification progress likely to be the main measure of his tenure. Noffke’s appointment also brings a change in leadership structure rather than a simple coaching switch. He will move from a specialist bowling position to the central role of planning selections, preparing the team and managing match strategy.

What Pakistan loses from its coaching staff

Pakistan now has to replace a bowling coach who spent approximately 16 months within its system. The timing matters because a new appointment will need to understand the existing white-ball group quickly and work within the board’s broader coaching structure. The vacancy adds another selection decision around Pakistan’s support staff.

It also places greater attention on the leadership setup linked to the team’s Pakistan Head Coach, as the board searches for a specialist who can settle the bowling plans without a long transition. Noffke’s exit does not change Pakistan’s match score or tournament position because no fixture result is attached to this coaching announcement. The immediate consequence is administrative and strategic: the board must identify a replacement while the outgoing coach completes his final assignment. For more detail, see BBC Sport Cricket.

What comes next for both teams

For the Netherlands, the first task will be establishing a clear coaching plan for the two qualification cycles. Noffke’s contract through 2028 gives him a defined window to build continuity around the men’s team and prepare for both 50-over and T20 challenges.

Pakistan’s next step is the appointment process. The board has already advertised the bowling coach role, so the search has moved beyond speculation and into formal recruitment. The image of Noffke finishing his Pakistan work before crossing into a head coach role captures the larger change. One team is replacing a specialist, while the other is entrusting him with its qualification ambitions. It is worth watching how Ashley Noffke develops from here.
