Apple has officially launched the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, bringing Thunderbolt 5 ports, significantly faster performance, and higher base storage across both 14-inch and 16-inch models. And if you’re waiting for something more affordable — the rumoured MacBook Neo with A18 Pro is reportedly launching tomorrow at around ₹60,000–₹80,000.
MacBook Pro M5 — India & US Pricing
| Model | Display | India Price | US Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| M5 Pro (1TB base) | 14-inch | ₹2,49,900 | $2,199 |
| M5 Pro (1TB base) | 16-inch | ₹3,39,900 | $2,699 |
| M5 Max (2TB base) | 14-inch | ₹3,99,900 | $3,599 |
| M5 Max (2TB base) | 16-inch | ₹4,29,900 | $3,899 |
Key Specs & What’s New
The biggest hardware upgrade this generation is Thunderbolt 5 — all MacBook Pro M5 models now ship with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, delivering up to 120Gbps bandwidth, doubling what Thunderbolt 4 offered. That’s a significant leap for professionals connecting high-speed external SSDs, multiple 8K displays, or docking stations.
The M5 Pro brings a 10-core CPU and up to 20-core GPU with up to 64GB Unified Memory, while the M5 Max steps up to a 16-core CPU and up to 40-core GPU with up to 128GB Unified Memory — both featuring the same Neural Accelerator architecture introduced in the M5 chip that powers per-core AI acceleration. Base storage also improves — M5 Pro starts at 1TB and M5 Max starts at 2TB, up from the previous generation’s lower base configurations.
Battery life, the Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion, and the overall aluminium chassis remain unchanged — Apple’s philosophy here is clear: refine the internals, not the form factor.
MacBook Neo — The Affordable Mac Launching Tomorrow
The most exciting development for budget-conscious buyers is the rumoured MacBook Neo, expected to launch tomorrow at approximately ₹60,000–₹80,000. Powered by the A18 Pro SoC — the same chip inside the iPhone 16 Pro — it would mark Apple’s most affordable Mac in years, likely targeting students and first-time Mac buyers who currently opt for the MacBook Air. No official confirmation yet, but the timing alongside the MacBook Pro M5 launch makes it very plausible.
