Apple AirPods 5 Launched in India at ₹14,900: ANC for Everyone, and Siri That Finally Listens Properly

There is a particular sound every Indian commuter knows as AirPods 5—the layered roar of a Mumbai local, a Bengaluru flyover at 6 PM, or an auto ride where the driver’s playlist is louder than yours. For years, the answer to that noise cost you upward of ₹24,900. As of September 9, 2026, it costs ₹14,900.

Apple has announced the AirPods 5, and the headline is not a new colour or a slightly better chip. It is that Active Noise Cancellation — once the defining privilege of the Pro line — is now standard on the entry-level AirPods. Every single unit. No “the ANC one” versus “the cheaper one” confusion that made buying AirPods 4 a small research project.

AirPods 5: Price in India and Availability

• Pre-orders: Live now on Apple India’s online store and authorised retailers
• Shipping begins: September 18, 2026
• Markets: India, US, and 65+ countries on day one

The most striking part of that table? The base price has not moved from the AirPods 4 generation. Apple added its most-requested feature and kept the number the same — a rare event in a year when almost everything else got more expensive.

What’s Actually New: The Five Upgrades That Matter

1. Open-Ear ANC That’s 50% Stronger

Apple claims 50% more noise reduction than AirPods 4. This is significant because AirPods 5 retain the open-ear, non-sealing design — no silicone tips pushing into your ear canal. Achieving meaningful cancellation without a physical seal is genuinely difficult engineering, and it is the reason many users who find Pro-style tips uncomfortable have stayed away from ANC entirely.

For a two-hour flight from Delhi to Bengaluru, or a shared cab through peak traffic, that difference is the difference between listening to your podcast and listening to the road.

2. A Rebuilt Acoustic Architecture

A new multi-port acoustic design paired with next-generation Adaptive EQ means the earbuds continuously measure what you’re actually hearing and correct the frequency response in real time. Apple’s phrasing is “richer, more detailed sound” — in practice, expect firmer low-end and cleaner vocal separation than the previous generation managed.

3. Live Translation — And Why India Should Care

This is the feature with the most interesting future in a country with 22 official languages. Live Translation handles real-time multilingual conversation directly through the earbuds. You hear the translation; the other person hears you. For anyone who has navigated a business meeting in a city where they don’t speak the local language, this moves from novelty to utility very quickly.

4. Siri, With Your Head

Personalised Spatial Audio returns, now joined by head-gesture Siri controls — a nod to accept a call, a shake to decline, without touching anything. Combined with the upgraded on-device Siri intelligence, the interaction model is finally moving past “tap the stem twice and hope.”

5. Battery and Build

Twenty-two hours means a full work week of Indian commutes on a single case charge for most people.

The Sustainability Column

Apple continues its material transition: AirPods 5 are built with 40% recycled materials, the wireless charging case uses 70% recycled plastic, and the batteries use 100% recycled cobalt. It’s a quieter story than ANC, but it’s the one that compounds over a product line selling in the tens of millions.

Should You Upgrade From AirPods 4?

Buy if: You own AirPods 4 (non-ANC), AirPods 3, or 2nd-gen AirPods. The jump is substantial — you are gaining noise cancellation, a better acoustic system, and translation features that simply did not exist on your hardware.

Wait if: You already own AirPods 4 with ANC. The 50% improvement is real, but it is an iteration on something you already have, not a new category of capability.

Consider Pro instead if: You want the absolute maximum isolation and don’t mind in-ear tips. The sealed design still wins on raw cancellation.

The Bigger Picture

What Apple has effectively done is delete the reason to buy an entry-level competitor. At ₹14,900 with ANC, spatial audio, and live translation, AirPods 5 sit directly on top of a price band that Indian brands have owned for three years. The pressure now moves downward — and that is good news for anyone buying earbuds this festive season, whatever logo they prefer.

Pre-orders are live. Deliveries start September 18.
