Animal movie impact remains a benchmark for Indian cinema in 2026

Animal movie star Ranbir Kapoor really changed the game for the commercial action genre when it hit theaters in 2023. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, this thrilling drama grabbed the attention of audiences all over the country, showcasing what a mainstream Bollywood film could do at the box office.

While final numbers can vary in industry reports, the film raked in about ₹900 crore worldwide. This massive success kept people talking long after it left theaters.

In India, the cinematic scene often hinges on star power. However, this film showed that bold, unconventional storytelling can engage audiences like never before. The way it polarized viewers while still achieving high viewership metrics serves as a great example of modern marketing and franchise potential. Times of India Entertainment confirms this.

Unlike typical family dramas, this film embraced raw, unfiltered character arcs, giving it a unique identity that set it apart from other releases that year.

Other projects are finding it tough to match this level of cultural impact. Many producers try to replicate the aggressive promotional strategies used here, but the unique blend of the director’s vision and the lead actor’s performance is hard to copy, according to recent coverage by VentureBeat AI.

Not everyone is on board—some critics feel the film’s length and tone were too much for a general audience. However, we believe that the buzz generated on social media proves the project’s significant impact on the current Indian entertainment scene.

The industry is keenly observing how the team behind this success will shape their future projects. As of June 2026, the focus has shifted to high-concept originals and ambitious sequels aimed at capturing similar audience enthusiasm.

Whether through direct sequels or spiritual successors, the legacy of this 2023 hit continues to shape production plans across Mumbai. We anticipate that the trend of bold, character-driven action will dominate the theatrical release calendar for the rest of the year.
