AMD just brought something that’s never existed before. At MWC 2026, AMD officially launched the Ryzen AI 400 Series for AM5 desktop — the world’s first desktop processors to meet Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC requirements, with a 50 TOPS XDNA 2 NPU built right into your PC.

What This Actually Means for Desktop PCs
Until now, Copilot+ AI PC features — real-time AI transcription, on-device language models, Windows Recall — required a laptop with Qualcomm Snapdragon or AMD Ryzen AI mobile chips. The Ryzen AI 400 desktop changes that, bringing the same XDNA 2 NPU and RDNA 3.5 integrated GPU that power these features into a socketed AM5 desktop for the first time.
The silicon is identical to the mobile Ryzen AI 400 lineup — AMD simply adjusted the power limits and form factor. That means excellent efficiency: the standard 65W G models match AMD’s current low-power Ryzen 9000 desktop SKUs, and the 35W GE variants are quieter still, making these ideal for compact desktops, mini PCs, and office builds.
One important caveat: AMD is only offering these APUs in OEM systems for now — no boxed retail units at launch. A standard DIY launch is not expected yet, but based on previous releases, we can expect it a few months after the Q2 2026 commercial availability. As TechnoSports has noted, AMD’s Ryzen AI 400 desktop tops out at 8 cores and Radeon 860M — the full 12-core, Radeon 890M mobile flagship isn’t coming to AM5 yet.
OEM partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are building systems around these chips, with commercial availability from Q2 2026.
