What This Actually Means for Desktop PCs
Until now, Copilot+ AI PC features — real-time AI transcription, on-device language models, Windows Recall — required a laptop with Qualcomm Snapdragon or AMD Ryzen AI mobile chips. The Ryzen AI 400 desktop changes that, bringing the same XDNA 2 NPU and RDNA 3.5 integrated GPU that power these features into a socketed AM5 desktop for the first time.
The silicon is identical to the mobile Ryzen AI 400 lineup — AMD simply adjusted the power limits and form factor. That means excellent efficiency: the standard 65W G models match AMD’s current low-power Ryzen 9000 desktop SKUs, and the 35W GE variants are quieter still, making these ideal for compact desktops, mini PCs, and office builds.
One important caveat: AMD is only offering these APUs in OEM systems for now — no boxed retail units at launch.
