AMD and Microsoft Collaborate to Advance AI Capabilities in Windows Ecosystem

AMD and Microsoft are partnering to harness the power of AI and provide developers and consumers with the necessary tools to fully utilize AI technology. While conventional CPUs and GPUs can handle some AI tasks, specialized AI engines designed for AI workloads are crucial for optimal performance. The new AMD Ryzen 7040 Series processors with Ryzen AI feature a dedicated on-die processing block tailored for AI workloads, making them ideal for ultrathin laptops running Windows 11.

Microsoft and AMD Accelerate AI Adoption with Developer Tools for Ryzen AI

Microsoft is integrating AI into the Windows ecosystem in various ways, and AMD Ryzen AI supports these innovations. For instance, Windows Studio Effects, including features like Eye Contact, Automatic framing, and advanced background effects, enhance video call experiences. These effects rely on machine learning algorithms and require an AI-specific component like Ryzen AI.

These advanced Windows features are available on laptops equipped with select AMD Ryzen 7040 Series processors with Ryzen AI. As AI adoption continues to grow, dedicated AI engines like Ryzen AI will become increasingly important. AI is already transforming multiple sectors, from content creation to video conferencing, necessitating more effective hardware and software acceleration. Supporting the AI market involves not only consumer-facing applications but also developer support.

As part of their AI strategic direction, AMD offers early access to Ryzen AI software for Windows developers. This enables AI researchers and developers to run AI workloads on select Ryzen 7040 Series processors using the open-source AI framework Vitis AI Execution Provider (EP) and ONNX Runtime with Microsoft Olive support. The package provides superior CPU support and progressively enhances AMD XDNA AI Engine acceleration with minimal usability impact.

“Dedicated AI processing engines are essential to bringing to life a future of amazing AI experiences on Windows 11,” said Pavan Davuluri, CVP of Windows Silicon and Systems Integration, Microsoft Corp. The Ryzen 7040 Series processors with Ryzen AI enables Windows Studio Effects and empower developers to run AI workloads on ONNX Runtime.

AI is set to drive innovation in the Windows ecosystem for both customers and developers. AMD Ryzen 7040 Series processors with Ryzen AI offer exceptional performance, power efficiency, and unique experiences not found in other x86 processors. The developer tools provided by AMD facilitate the integration of AI functionality, making AI-powered applications more accessible to the public. These features are available in over 80 AMD Ryzen AI-powered laptops, making them the top choice for those seeking a powerful and modern notebook.
