Apple announced a host of updates for all of its devices yesterday, and that includes its favourite watchOS as well. It has brought a lot of important updates to all of its devices including iPhones, iPads, Macs and the most important feature addition with the new watchOS 7.4 has to be the ubility to unlock your iPhone with Apple Watch as we attempt to do so using Face ID while wearing a mask.
With the magic of Bluetooth proximity, now, your iPhone will know that you will be using the phone and will bypass the Face ID screen altogether. So, you just have to just swipe up and you are in and will only work if your Apple Watch is in promzimity of your iPhone which skips the hassle to enter pin when you wear a mask.
Also, with the watchOS 7.4, the ECG sensor is now enabled in Australia and Vietnam. So if you own an Apple Watch Series 4 and above, except the SE model, you will also be able to take ECG readings right from your wrist. Here’s the complete changelog of the new watchOS 7.4:
- Ability to unlock your iPhone X and later with Apple Watch when you attempt to use Face ID while wearing a face mask
- Option to classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct identification of headphones for audio notifications
- Ability to stream audio and video content from Apple Fitness+ workouts to AirPlay 2-enabled TVs and devices
- Support for the ECG app on Apple Watch Series 4 or later in Australia and Vietnam
- Support for irregular heart rhythm notifications in Australia and Vietnam
