Why Was Ullu Banned — And What Happened Next?
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting banned 25 OTT platforms, including Ullu, ALTT, Desiflix, and Big Shots, for hosting and distributing sexually explicit content — issuing a directive to Internet Service Providers across India to block public access. IMDb
Examinations by the Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights found continued violations after platforms were repeatedly warned through advisories and notices. Wikipedia Ullu didn’t just get banned — it removed all content from its official website and wiped all posts from its Instagram page, with makers going underground amid legal restrictions. Wikipedia
The fallout hit unreleased content hard. Web series that had not yet premiered — including those featuring various Ullu actresses — remain unreleased, with industry sources confirming they will continue to stay off platforms for the foreseeable future. Wikipedia
Where Does This Leave Aliya Naaz?
Aliya Naaz is a prominent Indian actress known for her role as Dr. Menka in Ullu’s Takk Part 2, having built her career across 50+ web series that earned her a dedicated fanbase across platforms. Filmibeat
Beyond Ullu, she has worked on Prime Shots, Cine Prime, Hunters, and Jalwa Originals Big Brother Wiki — which means she isn’t entirely without options. However, five more OTT platforms were blocked in February 2026, with the government actively working on draft IT (Digital Code) Rules 2026 aimed at addressing online obscenity more comprehensively. The regulatory landscape governing digital content in India is explained in detail on the Information Technology Act, 2000 Wikipedia page — the central legislation powering all these bans.
