Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’ Struggles at the Box Office: Fans React to Maddock Film’s Flop

Mixed Reactions Surface as ‘Jigra’ Becomes Alia Bhatt’s Second Lowest-Grossing Film

Alia Bhatt, celebrated for her compelling performances in films like Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, is facing a rare setback as her latest release, Jigra, underperforms at the box office. Directed by Vasan Bala and produced in collaboration with Maddock Films, Jigra was anticipated to be a bold, memorable addition to Alia’s career, especially after the trailer hinted at intense scenes featuring Alia and co-star Vedang Raina. Despite the initial excitement, however, Jigra has only collected ₹29.25 crore in its first two weeks, inching towards the ₹30 crore mark, and becoming Alia’s second-lowest grosser after Highway.

Social Media Buzz: Blame Game and Support for Alia

Jigra’s lackluster performance has sparked mixed reactions online. While some fans sympathize with the film’s director, Vasan Bala, noting that he seems to be taking the brunt of the criticism, others argue that Alia’s silence is uncharacteristic and disappointing. One Reddit user remarked, “Alia has stopped posting about Jigra. Vasan Bala is still thanking fans and tagging Alia, but she’s quiet, letting him take the heat.” This sentiment has been echoed by several netizens, who feel that Alia, as the lead and producer, should have taken more ownership in promoting the film, especially in times of criticism.

Others noted that her past flops, like Kalank and Sadak 2, seemed to evade direct blame for Alia, with supporting actors and directors often becoming the focus instead. “Everyone takes the blame for her flops except her,” a social media user commented, reflecting the frustration some fans have with the star’s handling of less successful projects.

Alia was recently seen visiting Maddock Films’ office, which led to speculation about her seeking new opportunities amid the Jigra fallout. A fan humorously remarked, “Alia high-speeding her Range Rover to Maddock’s office,” a comment that quickly gained traction on social media.

Is One Flop a Career Changer? Fans Weigh In

On the flip side, many fans feel that Jigra’s underperformance is just a bump in the road for Alia, whose career has seen far more successes than setbacks. One fan pointed out, “People forget that big stars like SRK and Salman have had flops too. One setback isn’t going to change the fact that Alia is a crowd-puller.” This view is shared by several supporters who believe that Alia will bounce back with her upcoming projects, particularly the YRF spy thriller Alpha and Love & War, her next collaboration with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, co-starring her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

With major releases lined up, fans remain hopeful that Alia’s brief setback with Jigra won’t define her career and that she’ll soon be back to delivering crowd-pleasers.
