Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan Team Up for Two New Films After Bhooth Bangla

After the success of Bhooth Bangla, actor-director duo Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are set to reunite for two more films. The news has set Bollywood buzzing, marking what appears to be a sustained and exciting new chapter in one of Hindi cinema’s most bankable creative partnerships.

The Two New Projects

Both projects will be backed by producer Ramesh Taurani. The first project will be a comedy slated to go on floors in January 2027. The second film is Bhoot Police 2, which will also feature Akshay in the lead and be directed by Priyadarshan. Talks for both films had been on for the past two months and it’s only recently that all details have been finalised. Taurani confirmed the report, saying, “Yes, we are producing both the films with Akshay and Priyadarshan.”

Film Details at a Glance

Project 1: A Classic Comedy with Tips Films

The new film is being developed as a full-blown Priyadarshan comic entertainer, and the choice of Tips Films is a notable one. The banner has long had a strong presence in commercial Hindi cinema, so its decision to back this reunion project gives the film an added layer of market interest beyond the nostalgia factor attached to Akshay and Priyadarshan.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Priyadarshan is putting together an exciting film and has signed Akshay Kumar for it. It’ll be a typical Priyan entertainer that’ll appeal to the youth and families alike.” The source continued, “It’ll be produced by Tips Films and this will be the first time that the reputed banner will be working with Priyadarshan.” The latest update clarifies that this is a completely fresh project under the Tips banner.

Project 2: Bhoot Police 2

Akshay has also come on board as the leading man for Bhoot Police 2, also being directed by Priyadarshan. The team is on the lookout for the second male lead, who will join Akshay in it. There were rumors earlier that this Tips Films project would be a sequel to Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor’s Bhoot Police which came in 2021. Some reports even claimed it was a direct sequel where Akshay and other Priyadarshan regulars would replace the original cast.

The Bhooth Bangla Effect

The announcement of two new films comes on the back of the roaring success of Bhooth Bangla. Their latest release Bhooth Bangla arrived in cinemas on April 17, 2026 and has crossed 100 crore nett India in 8 days.

Bhooth Bangla is a horror-comedy based on Indian mythology and black magic, with inspiration drawn from ancient texts such as the Vedas and the Mahabharata. Bhooth Bangla was officially announced in September 2024 with a motion poster revealed by lead actor Akshay Kumar on his 57th birthday, marking his seventh collaboration with director Priyadarshan, 14 years after Khatta Meetha (2010).

A Legendary Collaboration

As for Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, both have worked together in 7 films until now — Hera Pheri (2000), Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), De Dana Dan (2009), Khatta Meetha (2010) and Bhooth Bangla. Haiwaan will be their eighth film together, while the movie with Tips will be their ninth outing. They are also committed to Hera Pheri 3 once the legal issues are resolved.
