Did Admirella Really Overthrow President Glab in Futurama Season 14?

Futurama’s newest episode, “Our Flag Means Medical Coverage,” turns a piano heist gone wrong into a full-blown political coup — and yes, DOOP finally has a new leader.

The episode sends Fry, Bender, Leela, Admirella, and Kif on a mission to deliver a priceless piano to the Vampire Empire before a crucial DOOP vote. When the delivery falls through, President Glab’s plan to extend her presidency to a lifetime term collapses because the Vampire Empire’s leader refuses to break the tie without his piano.

That hesitation gives the Planet Express crew their opening. Admirella, Fry, Leela, and the rest of the gang arrive with the piano and threaten to destroy it unless Glab resigns and hands the presidency to Admirella. Glab tries one last dodge — naming Admirella a “temporary” leader instead of a permanent one — but the group catches the trick and forces her to make it official.

Was Kif a Traitor?

Not exactly. Kif’s involvement in the coup turns out to be support for DOOP’s constitution, which limits presidents to two terms, rather than a betrayal. Admirella had uncovered Glab’s secret alliances with other empires designed to secure votes for her illegal third term, so she recruited Kif and even space-pirate allies to intercept the cargo and stop the plan. Brannigan, meanwhile, stayed loyal to Glab simply because he wasn’t sharp enough to see the coup coming.

Recap Table

Futurama has long used its space-opera setting to poke fun at real-world power grabs, and this episode is no exception — a leader clinging to office is a plot as old as democracy itself. For more on the show’s satirical roots, its universe borrows heavily from classic sci-fi tropes, similar to franchises covered in Futurama’s Wikipedia entry.
