Aamir Khan Rejects ₹120 Cr Amazon Prime Offer: Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Release Date Still Undisclosed

Amid growing anticipation for Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, a new development has sparked conversations across the entertainment industry.

The Bollywood icon has reportedly rejected a massive ₹120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the movie’s digital rights. This bold step reflects Khan’s larger vision of reviving the theatrical experience for audiences across India. While fans eagerly await the Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Release Date, it remains undisclosed for now, as Aamir prioritizes cinemas over immediate digital releases.

Why Aamir Khan Is Changing the Rules

Unlike the popular trend of releasing films on streaming platforms just weeks after hitting theatres, Sitaare Zameen Par will follow a very different path. Trade expert Komal Nahta explained, “Aamir Khan rejected the offer because he wants to wait at least eight weeks after the movie’s release in theatres before making it available online.”

Khan firmly believes that rushing to OTT platforms shortly after theatrical release has diluted the excitement around going to cinemas. With this strategy, Aamir is not just aiming for better box office numbers but also hoping to reshape how Indian audiences consume films.

Offers from OTT Giants Declined

Amazon Prime Video wasn’t the only platform interested in the project. Prior to this, Netflix also reportedly approached Aamir Khan with a significant deal for the digital rights. Yet, Khan refused both offers, holding his ground on his commitment to theatrical exclusivity for Sitaare Zameen Par.

These decisions may seem risky from a commercial standpoint, but they underline Khan’s broader goal: to bring audiences back to theatres and restore the magic of the big screen.

YouTube to Play a Key Role

Though Aamir has rejected deals from streaming giants, Sitaare Zameen Par will eventually find its way to online viewers. However, rather than opting for a major OTT player, Aamir plans to release the movie via YouTube’s paid content feature. This approach gives Khan complete control over when and how the film is made available online—something traditional OTT deals don’t offer.

While this strategy is unconventional, it opens up a new possibility for future filmmakers to bypass traditional platforms in favor of more flexible models of distribution.

What About the Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Release Date?

Naturally, with the film’s theatrical release locked for June 20, curiosity around the Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Release Date is at an all-time high. However, the official digital release date remains undisclosed as of now. By delaying the OTT launch, Aamir wants to ensure that cinema halls benefit first, before giving audiences the option to stream the movie at home.

This delayed release model could become a new trend in Bollywood if it proves successful, potentially shifting how producers negotiate with digital platforms in the future.

Could This Spark a New Trend in Bollywood?

The Indian film industry is at a crossroads, balancing between theatre-going experiences and the booming digital market. Aamir Khan’s unconventional approach may well be a game-changer. If audiences flock to cinemas for Sitaare Zameen Par and support the delayed streaming plan, it could signal a shift in how films are distributed in India.

For now, all eyes are on Sitaare Zameen Par’s theatrical run, with the OTT Release Date still under wraps. Whether this gamble pays off or not, Aamir’s strategy has already started a conversation that might reshape Bollywood’s release model in the years to come.
