Big prints have always come with a big price tag for smaller photo businesses. HP just narrowed that gap, unveiling a new large-format printer built specifically to make professional photo printing more accessible for India’s growing photography industry.

What HP Just Announced

HP unveiled the DesignJet XT870, a 24-inch large-format printer, at Photo Video Asia 2026 in New Delhi, positioning it as a more affordable entry-level option for photographers and photo printing businesses across India. The XT870 now sits alongside HP’s existing DesignJet Z6 (available in 24-inch and 44-inch) and DesignJet Z9+ printer series, giving photo businesses options across different budgets and business needs.

According to Vitesh K. Sharma, Head of Large Format Printing Business at HP India, the shift underway in India’s photography sector is being driven by thousands of photographers and photo printing businesses looking to grow and better serve their customers. He explained that as demand for professional prints across different formats keeps rising, having the right printing capability directly shapes how fast a business can respond and how many services it can offer. HP’s broader goal, he added, is making professional-grade photo printing accessible to businesses at every stage of their journey — and the XT870 rounds out that portfolio as an accessible starting point that still delivers HP’s usual reliability, paired with affordable original supplies and a simplified workflow.

What the HP Printer Actually Offers

The DesignJet XT870 is built around simplifying everyday printing tasks. Its integrated input tray supports multi-size printing from A4 up to 24×36 inches, letting users move between roll and sheet media without manual switching. It runs on HP Flex Tech pigment inks, delivering professional-quality output across photographs, posters, and canvas prints.

The printer also comes with HP Click, HP’s intuitive print management software, which includes real-print preview, automatic error detection, and driverless printing. Features like nesting, drag-and-drop functionality, and automatic source selection are designed to cut down on manual intervention and speed up everyday workflows.
