A Broken Camera, A Bad Omen, and Chiranjeevi’s Words That Changed It All

Some of cinema’s most legendary stories start with disaster, not glory. Late director Kodi Ramakrishna’s throwback about his 1982 directorial debut with Chiranjeevi proves exactly that — and the anecdote is winning fresh attention online today.

The Inauspicious Start

Kodi Ramakrishna, who passed away in 2019, once recalled how eager he was to launch his directorial debut, Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya, with Chiranjeevi. He’d planned for the film’s first shot to feature the Megastar himself, marking an auspicious beginning. But Chiranjeevi arrived late to the launch ceremony, forcing the team to shoot the opening scene with actress Poornima instead to stay within the scheduled auspicious time.

Moments later, an assistant revealed the camera hadn’t even been connected to the battery — meaning nothing had actually been recorded. Everyone on set saw it as a bad omen for a debutant director.

Chiranjeevi’s Reassurance

When Chiranjeevi arrived and learned what happened, he immediately lifted everyone’s spirits. He asked Kodi Ramakrishna to reshoot the first proper scene with him and confidently predicted the film would run successfully in theaters for a full year.

His words proved prophetic — Intlo Ramayya Veedhilo Krishnayya released in 1982 and became a major box office hit, later remade in Tamil and Hindi.

Why This Story Still Resonates

Chiranjeevi, often called the Telugu cinema industry’s “Megastar,” has long been known for uplifting collaborators, and this story is a small but telling example of that reputation dating back to the very start of his stardom.
