It’s filled with signature styling elements such as the Triumph logo on the engine casing, bits and pieces carried over from the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X, and design elements that pay homage to the larger Thruxton 1200 cafe racer and the new half-fairing that places the bike in a better position on the street than its predecessor. The fairing has also dragged down the turn indicators, compared to the Speed 400.
Other features include a rounded LED headlamp, bar-end mirrors, a stout windscreen, a sculpted fuel tank, a single-piece seat and cowl, and an upswept exhaust. The Thruxton 400 will feature clip-on handlebars for an aggressive riding position, but a centrally mounted footpeg will also ensure that the position is comfortable for most riders. It will also borrow the analog speedometer with an integrated LCD screen from the Speed 400.
It seems Triumph’s single-cylinder 400cc platform is paying dividends, with models like the Speed T, Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X already establishing a foothold in the middleweight segment. Thanks to its unique appeal, the Thruxton 400 sets Triumph on target for a new customer.
The Thruxton 400 will be based on a tubular steel frame and will be offered with 43mm USD forks and a gas rear mono shock RSU. Other features include, 17-inch wheels in the case of the BMW M2, and the block may be seen wearing Pirelli Rosso rubber overseas, while the homegrown MRF or Apollo rubber will accept the road in India. For braking, it will also feature dual-channel ABS and 300mm and 230mm discs. The Thruxton 400 will likely have a slightly premium price, building on the Speed T’s ₹1.99 lakh and the Scrambler 400X’s ₹2.65 lakh (ex-showroom) prices.
