NVIDIA to Launch GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs

NVIDIA clearly has a habit of unveiling GeForce RTX products at CES, because in the last four years, NVIDIA announced the RTX 40 SUPER series in 2024, RTX 4070 Ti in 2023, RTX 3090 Ti in 2022, and the RTX 3060 in 2021. The next-generation trio is set to arrive this year. Although each product is expected to have its own launch date, some information has started to appear about the broadcast.

The flagship model is expected to be the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 which will start at PG144/145-SKU30 PCB design and use the GB202-300-A1 GPU core. All told, the CPU ended up with 21,760 TB but is expected to be limited up to 170 out of the 192 SMs. This puts the RTX 5090 cut-down configuration for this design at a roughly -11.4% reduction in core count compared to the RTX 4090. The RTX 5090 will also feature a whopping 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM on a 512-bit bus at 28Gbps, offering up bandwidth as much as up to 1792GB/s off memory. This card is rumored to have a total board power (TBP) rating of 600W.

The second model, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, will utilize the PG144/147-SKU45 PCB and the GB203-400-A1 GPU die, featuring 84 SMs and 10,752 cores, a significant -51% reduction compared to the RTX 5090. It will have 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM running on a 256-bit bus interface, delivering up to 1024 GB/s of bandwidth with a 400W TBP.

Finally, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 will be equipped with the GB205 GPU on the PG147 PCB, featuring a 192-bit bus interface and 12 GB of memory. It will support memory speeds of 28 Gbps for a total bandwidth of 672 GB/s, with a TBP of 250W.

Additionally, the Blackwell series will introduce enhanced PCB back-drilling for improved signal integrity and is expected to feature a 14-layer PCB design. All GPUs will support PCIe 5.0 and DP2.1a with full 80 Gbps bandwidth support. Expect an exciting announcement at CES 2025, showcasing not only the new GPUs but also innovative AI technologies for gamers.
