Apple’s latest operating system updates, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, introduce a host of exciting new features designed to enhance user experience. Without a doubt, one of the most talked-about features is Genmoji — this feature alone is about to turn how we experience our emojis on Apple devices upside down. If you are confused about what exactly Genmoji is and how to use it on your iPhone, here’s a detailed overview.

The All New Genmoji on iOS 18

Genmoji (short for Generative Emoji) Genmoji is an innovative feature that takes emojis to another level. Genmoji unleashes the power of AI to allow users to craft 100 percent custom emojis for any event or emotion. The new capability allows you to describe an emoji in terms of text prompts, like a “dinosaur in a tutu surfing” or a “smiling face with cucumbers in its eyes.

Based on your description, the AI generates a new Genmoji for you, offering a range of variations to choose from. Additionally, you can use photos to generate Genmojis of your friends and family. For example, you could turn a photo of your mom into a superhero Genmoji. These custom emojis can be used in messages, shared as stickers, or employed as Tapback reactions within the Messages app.

Currently, Genmoji is not available in the initial release of Apple’s iOS 18 features. Genmoji is rumored for an official rollout in October and possibly later delayed up to December 2024. Apple’s Intelligence features are available on all devices, although some features require the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max or a newer model. Genmoji requires an iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, any model of iPhone 16, or an M-series iPad/Mac.

Currently, only certain features of Apple Intelligence are available; this includes Writing Tools, Summarize, and Clean Up Tool. Apple said that more features and languages will be added over the next year. This new Genmoji feature highlights Apple’s commitment to enhancing digital communication through innovative technologies, making your messaging experience more personal and expressive.
