Samsung’s next-gen ‘M14’ panels are likely to debut in the latest premium devices from Apple and Google later this year, taking smartphone display technology up another notch. The expected beneficiaries of these state-of-the-art OLED screens are the upcoming Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max as well as the Google Pixel 9 series.

More About the iPhone 16 Pro Series Display

The OLED panel is likely to be provided for the entire lineup of iPhone 16 from Samsung, its distinguished OLED panel supplier. Not all of these models will get the same level of display tech. Samsung is preparing to ship their newest M14 LTPO technology to Apple soon as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max Use High-Quality Screens. Additionally, the ‘M’ refers to materials (material) which are OLED panels that are actually used by Samsung and scored at 14 meaning is expected brighter and longer in life than its previous generation.

Like Apple, even Google is said to be working on its new Pixel 9 series comprising the vanilla and premium models: Google Pixel 9 Pro (XL) with M14 panels. Putting the Pixel on par in quality and performance with these brands, Google declares itself a player at Apple scale.

What’s particularly intriguing is that the benefits Google enjoys here essentially come down to timing. The Pixel 9 series is anticipated to debut this autumn before Apple reveals the iPhone 16 family, allowing consumers and industry insiders an early opportunity to study and critique their M14 displays. That could sway buying behavior, and critical press reviews, proving Google’s dedication to using cutting-edge display tech in its flagship smartphone range.

Reports also indicate that Apple will continue to use M12 panels from the last generation on its iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models in an apparent measure taken to maintain their market prices, even if production costs of these devices remain high because they still produce exceptional results.

As Samsung and Google get ready to launch their new flagships, the embrace of Samsung’s M14 displays speaks volumes about both company’s desire to bring vivid viewing experiences. Expect to hear more about these progressions in the coming months which will define how smartphone display technology evolves next.
