Microsoft allows employees to permanently Work from Home amid the pandemic

The pandemic has struck us hard and change the way our economy operates. Work from Home becoming the new norm of the society, it seems more tech companies are adapting to this new trend. Software giants are competing in the release of cutting edge software, but the problem is whether employees should work in-office or continue to work from home.

However, the Redmond-based Software Giant has given its final verdict on its employee’s working situation.

The software giant has allowed its employees to work from home permanently if they choose. It has become the latest and one of the biggest employer to completely adopt the Work from Home culture brought forth by the pandemic.

Sources claim that Microsoft employees are still working from home as the company doesn’t expect to open its US offices until January 2021, at the earliest.

The new verdict from Microsoft, allows the employers to continue to work from their residence even after the US offices open for operations.

Microsoft’s Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan stated, “The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged all of us to think, live and work in new ways. We will offer as much flexibility as possible to support individual work styles while balancing business needs and ensuring we live our culture.”

Sources, however, claim that the employees who want to work from home permanently need approval from their managers to do so. However, they can still spend 50% of their week working from their residence without any approval from the management.

However, Microsofts lab technicians or employee trainers are expected to continue working from in-house once the operations resume. They won’t be eligible for Microsofts work from home policy. The company, however, also hinted at the re-location possibility of the employees. But, the windows creator refused to cover their relocation expenses.

Microsoft is not the first tech company to announce a permanent work from home rule; Facebook has already made arrangements for most of its employees to adopt a work from home culture permanently.

How this new culture will affect the tech industry and aid in increasing productivity and creativity remains to be seen.
