TSMC set to produce 5nm Apple A14 Bionic chipsets for iPhone 12 series

The Taiwanese semiconductor foundry who is the leader in making silicon wafers for huge companies like Apple, AMD, MediaTek, Qualcomm, and NVIDIA, has finally shred some light on manufacturing of its much anticipated 5nm SoCs, thanks to DigiTimes. One of its biggest customer, Apple, is scheduled to launch its iPhone 12 series with the latest 5nm based Apple A14 chip built on TSMC’s wafers.

Not only will the iPhone 12 series but also all of their upcoming products like Apple MacBook Air, Pro 13-inch, iPad, and others will use the same chip built by TSMC. So, TSMC has a lot of work. So, it is set to start mass production of Apple Silicon in the Q4 of 2020, along with a monthly capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 wafers based on the new 5nm process node.

Apple is completely changing its entire game with its own chips that are said to be way faster than Intel’s at lower prices, so if you are an Apple fan, do wait before you buy an Intel-powered Mac. Both the Apple A14 Bionic and A14X chips are said to be way more powerful than last gen’s A13 that was already advanced than most other SoCs in the market.

It’s a challenge for the Cupertino giant to deliver better performance than Intel CPUs on its Mac devices that will slowly and steadily be replaced by all of its own chips in the days to come. Apple wants to build its own ecosystem of devices powered by its own SoCs built on the ARM platform running on its native OS to bring the best out of the hardware that they provide.
