Regarding the COVID-19 situation in 2020, India’s smartphone shipments in the premium segment declined 32% in quarter 2 of the year 2020. Most of the smartphone companies have faced a huge amount of loss in those days, especially in that lockdown time, there were almost zero shipments in April. Still, OnePlus has managed to claim the top position in India Premium Smartphone Segment, Q2 2020. Some newly launched phones, like the OnePlus 8 Series 5G along with the re-entry of Apple kept the momentum alive in the market.
OnePlus has claimed the top position with a 29% share in Q2 of 2020, just passing out Samsung. According to reports and statistics, the OnePlus 8 Series 5G and te OnePlus 7T Series equally helped the brand to recapture this position. The OnePlus 8 witnessed a strong demand where OnePlus 8 Pro captured the second spot in the ultra-premium segment (>₹45,000 or roughly >$600). The branding of OnePlus, solid build & design, larger battery capacity, and higher refresh rate with OxygenOS 10 easily grabbed the attention of the customers.
Samsung has turned down to the second position with a slight margin of less than 1%. Samsung also captured almost 29% share. Among the Samsung models, the Samsung Galaxy A71 became the best-selling service and secured a spot in the top three models. Moreover, the Galaxy S20 Ultra has already captured the second spot in the ultra-premium segment.
Apple has secured the third spot in the premium shipment during the quarter. The iPhone 11 claimed the honor of the best-selling model in the previous quarter, slipped to the fifth spot but managed to remain number one in the ultra-premium segment. The latest iPhone SE 2020 also received a good response from the customers as it secured a spot in the top five models of the segment within the initial quarter of launch. We don’t have to think too much why Apple has grabbed these positions. The powerful branding of Apple, the latest & fastest A13 Bionic chipset, water & dust resistance, wireless charging are some of the features which contributed to the success of Apple.
In the upcoming days, Apple is trying to make more and more affordable iPhones like the SE 2020, which will encourage a huge number of Android users to join the family of IOS. Quite naturally, Apple has grabbed the top spot in the ultra-premium segment with a 42% share, thanks to the iPhone 11. Samsung and OnePlus secured the second and third spots, respectively.
