When it comes to audio devices, especially talking TWS earbuds, they’re a lot of them in the market from various manufacturers. Even smartphone makers haven’t stopped making earbuds at cheaper price points.
But from my experience, one who is a specialist in audio products make better products actually. Skullcandy is undoubtedly one of them, it has a lot of earbuds in their range and so I got a chance to review their new Indy Evo earbuds.
Skullcandy Indy was one of its best-selling earbuds previously, and it’s successor seems much more promising. There are a lot of things I liked and some issues I noticed, so before starting the review here are the specs of the Skullcandy Indy Evo:

Design and Build
The packing was done quite well and had all the necessary stuff, no issues with that. Well, at a first glance the structure of the case will remind you of the AirPod but honestly, it looks great, the color combination makes it look even cooler.
I got the black variant do go for the green one if you really want to buy this. So, the case well balanced and light with a lid that opens smoothly and due to magnet closes instantly, which you see in premium earbud cases.
Opening the case you’ll notice that there are four white light indicators hidden inside the front of the case, which I liked most. The LED indicator hidden at the front is quite a cool concept. The earbuds itself are quite light and you can easily pull it out and again put it back easily because of the magnet.
Another major thing you’ll notice is the USB Type-C port which is a great addition as well, helping to charge case quite fast. Holding the case in your hands feels smooth and you can easily carry it in your pocket. You have the Skullcandy branding on the front of the case and on both the earbuds which resonates well with the theme.
Controls
One of the biggest highlights of the earbuds is the extensive amount of touch controls the Indy Evo offers. It has about of them and it will take some time for you to actually get used to all of them. Here are all of them:
I am impressed with the accuracy of the touch sensor and how fast it is to detect your command. In just an instant it follows whether you want to skip or pause along with volume controls and a whole bunch of them.
Comfort & Usage
These days everyone is making earbuds most brands do not bother about the comfort of their earbuds except few including Skullcandy. The Indy Evo earbuds are very light and once it goes inside your ear canal, after 5 minutes you won’t feel it in your ears, it’s that much comfortable.
There are a lot of earcups provided with the earbuds, so use one which suits you. I have used the earbuds for more than a week now and I am using it over most other earbuds just because of the comfort.
I had complaints with other earbuds simply because when you watch a movie or listen to anything just lying down the earbuds would fall off because of the design. With the Indy Evo, I didn’t notice that it securely fits into your ears without giving you any trouble and having an official IP55 rating, the TWS earbuds seem to be safe from sweat, water, and dust.
Audio Quality
Yes, the main distinctive feature is the audio quality of these earbuds. It is one of the most soothing experiences listening to music with the earbuds. You can easily listen to hours of music without any problems, the weight balance is that great and so pleasing as its audio experience.
In the Music mode, you’ll experience great mid and high-tones which are good for listening to normal music. I like the fact it doesn’t hurt your ear even if you increase your volume – a sign of good earbuds. Generally, I listened at 70-80% volume without any problems and the sound was crystal clear without any distortion.
If you are a bass lover then the Movie mode might be helpful to an extent but the Indy Evo doesn’t give that thumpy audio experience. It is a great driver for normal music and even listening to Podcasts, it totally changes the way you hear podcasts until now.
These EQ modes are the best but you can only change it with the touch controls. The Ambient mode is another useful tool that you enable both via the app and via touch controls. This mode is useful if you are outside and want to listen to your surroundings even if the earbuds are attached to your ears.
Overall it’s a great music experience and also if you see movies using the movie mode the experience completely changes and you have a little bass to feel in your ears. I am pretty satisfied with the earbuds and its comfort is another thing I would like to appreciate the Skullcandy team.
Connectivity & Microphone
The earbuds feature Bluetooth 5.0 and interestingly each of the earbuds has a separate Bluetooth module showing up on mobile. So, you can easily use either one of them or both of them together, but because of this you might notice some issues while pairing but there’s a complete guide made for the earbuds:
The Indy Evo doesn’t have latency during gaming and while even watching movies with no lip-syncing stuff as such. It totally lives up to the expectations but after using the earbuds for a lot of time, you might experience a bit drop in connectivity but again if you turn off and on it works just fine.
Talking about the microphone quality it works great if you use both them, using either of them might sometimes give drops during calls especially but overall, most of the time it works great. Also, the earbuds have a wide reception range as you can even take calls at a far corner of the room or even in the other room with no distortion.
Integrations
The Skullcandy Indy Evo has a great app to work with and you can easily find the Skullcandy app from PlayStore or iOS to help you go through the extensive controls and pair it quickly. You can only turn the Ambient mode on with the app, nothing more can you do.
The app helps you register the earbuds, check for firmware updates, and other basic info stuff. I would appreciate if Skullcandy would implement some more features so that while paired with the phone you can easily configure it via the app.
Another great feature I like about the Indy Evo is that having tied up with Tile, you can easily track your earbud through their app. So, with GPS, you can track wherever your earbud is if you have lost it somehow, even if it’s one earbud.
Battery Life
One of the key improvements from last-gen is battery life. So, promising 30 hours of battery life with the case, the Indy Evo almost keeps its promise.
With the Type-C port, you can charge the earbud very fast in almost 1 and a half hours. I also like the fact that the case charges almost half in just 15 minutes, so with a quick charge you can keep your music experience alive on the go.
I was getting about 4 days of battery life with about 5-6 hours of usage each day which is still good with some charge still left on the earbuds. But I dislike the fact that if your earbud has charge while the charge of the case has died, the earbud doesn’t wake up automatically when it’s removed from the case.
Pros & Cons

Verdict
Overall this is an amazing TWS earbud at ₹ 6,499 and it is not cheap but not the costliest, yes it is a mid-range TWS earbuds which has 2 years of warranty, which is a rear option these days. Many earbuds maker miss out on some features even though how premium they make a TWS earbuds but with Indy Evo, Skullcandy has done justice to all the key aspects for which we generally look out for:
- Audio
- Design

Most Indians lookout for budget TWS earbuds but lose the immersive sound experience which Skullcandy never fails to deliver. Their EQ modes are just great along with the touch controls, connectivity and mic also seem great. Unique things like Ambient mode and GPS tracking makes it even more special and recommendable.
Also, the battery life has improved a lot and the Fast charging feature comes in handy while you travel. Overall, the Skullcandy Indy Evo is easy to recommend TWS earbuds with loads of features and above all a seamless music experience.
