Burnley have extended the contract of Vincent Kompany until 2028, on the back of a Championship winning debut season. The former Manchester City defender has managed to guide the team back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
And his performances attracted interest from the top flight clubs over a managerial position. Clubs like Chelsea had him in their shortlist, but the new contract has seemingly put an end to those rumours with Kompany committing to Turf Moor.

“Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start – so it also feels right to sign for the next five years,” Kompany told Burnley’s official website after his extension was made official.
“Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”
Vincent Kompany has only lost three games in the league all season. They also made it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup, and Round 4 of the EFL Cup before being eliminated by Manchester City and United respectively.
It will be interesting to see how he can build on the identity that he has established with Burnley this season in the Championship. Promotion to the top flight will require reinforcements to survive the drop again, and how the board navigates their transfer window will have a huge influence in the way their first season back plays out.
