N’Golo Kante is getting closer to extending his contract with Chelsea. The midfielder’s current deal runs out at the end of the ongoing season. And over the last few months, he has been in constant negotiations with the club to renew his contract.
But, there has been a constant disparity between the two parties, mainly over the length of the contract. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player is much closer to agreeing terms with the West London side to continue with them.
N’Golo Kante in final stages of extending contract with Chelsea
The new deal is not sealed yet, but is very advanced. Chelsea and Kante’s agents are working to find a solution soon, so that they can focus on matters on the pitch once he is back in action.
The midfielder’s fitness record has been the main deterrent which has prevented Chelsea from offering him an extra year on his contract. He has been out with a hamstring injury for the last six months, but has now rejoined team training.
As things stand, the team is not willing to risk rushing him back. His return could take place in March, which would provide a significant boost to the first team.
The hierarchy wants N’Golo Kante to form a partnership alongside Enzo Fernandez, who has been very impressive since arriving from Benfica. But, we will have to wait a few more weeks to see that pairing in central midfield.
Kante’s love for the club and the city has been the main reason why he has rejected offers to leave as a free agent. Fans will be eager for him to renew his contract as soon as possible, but there must be an agreement with the club over the terms before it is sealed.
