Miguel Almiron has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with Newcastle United on the back of his best season with them yet. The Paraguayan has scored 10 goals in 23 Premier League, helping the Magpies to an unexpected Champions League, and even title challenge.
He signed for them in January 2019 from Atlanta United in the MLS, and has finally found his feet in the English top flight. He had a remarkable scoring run prior to the World Cup, and the goals have since become rare. But, he has continued to perform quite well for the team even though he hasn’t found the back of the net as many times.
Miguel Almiron signs new contract with Newcastle United
“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Newcastle,” Miguel Almiron told the club’s official website.
“I felt at home at Newcastle from the beginning. I’ve felt very welcomed and I feel like part of the family, so I am very happy to stay here and I am going to keep giving everything on the pitch to thank the people of Newcastle.
“The truth is that I’ve worked really hard since I came to Newcastle to improve my level and to be where I am at the moment, and I also thank the staff and my team-mates, who have helped me a lot during these four years. I think this is a reward for that hard work and I am very happy.”
The attacker will be expected to play a part in their EFL Cup final tie against Manchester United this weekend. The team will be looking to end their eight-match losing run at Wembley Stadium, but will face a red-hot United side who are desperate for silverware.
