Despite the improved supply chain situation, the research firm attributed the drop in shipments to dwindling consumer demand due to high inflation.

According to IDC, 50 million 5G smartphones were shipped during the year, with an average selling price (ASP) of $395 (Rs 32,594) in 2022, down from $431 (Rs 35,500) in 2021. With more affordable 5G launches expected in 2023, 5G devices will account for approximately 60% of shipments in 2023.

In 2022, the ASP (average selling price) reached a new high of $224 (Rs 18,480), up 18% year on year. The $300-500 and $500+ mid-premium and premium price segments grew 20% and 55%, respectively, while the sub-$300 segment declined by 15%. Apple maintained its lead in the $500+ premium segment with a 60% share (iPhone 13 is the third most shipped device in 2022), followed by Samsung with a 21% share.
