DOR TV Shuts Down: India’s First Subscription TV Service Ends

India’s pioneering subscription-based television service, DOR TV, has officially ceased operations as of June 22, 2025. Streambox Media Private Limited, the company behind DOR, announced the permanent discontinuation of all services, marking the end of an ambitious attempt to revolutionize Indian television consumption.

DOR TV Shutdown: What Users Need to Know

The closure affects thousands of existing subscribers, but there’s some good news for device owners. All DOR TV devices have been automatically unlocked and can now function as standard Smart TVs without subscription restrictions.

Key Changes for Users:

• No more subscription fees will be charged
• DOR TV devices remain functional as regular Smart TVs
• All software support and updates have ended permanently
• Customer service channels are no longer operational
• Hardware warranties are void following company closure

The shutdown represents a significant shift in India’s streaming landscape. DOR TV aimed to combine live television with on-demand content through a unique subscription model, competing with traditional DTH and cable services.

Industry Impact: The closure highlights challenges faced by subscription-based TV services in India’s price-sensitive market. Despite innovative approaches, customer acquisition and retention remain critical hurdles for new entrants.

For existing users, the immediate concern is device functionality. Fortunately, the unlocked devices can access other streaming platforms and Smart TV features, providing continued entertainment value.

The Indian streaming market continues evolving rapidly, with established players like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar dominating the subscription space. DOR’s exit underscores the competitive nature of this sector.

Users experiencing issues with their unlocked devices should explore alternative streaming solutions, as technical support is no longer available.
