The Premier League is back, and the 22/23 season is officially underway. Here is what went down on Saturday, August 6:

Premier League results 6 August

  • Fulham 2-2 Liverpool
  • Tottenham 4-1 Southampton
  • Newcastle United 2-0 Nottingham Forest
  • Bournemouth 2-0 Aston Villa
  • Leeds United 2-1 Wolves
  • Everton 0-1 Chelsea

Arguably the most surprising result of the day was Premier League returnees Fulham holding Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a brace, while Darwin Nunez scored on his Premier League debut alongside Mohamed Salah, to level things up.

Fulham have now gone three games without a loss against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Tottenham got off to a flying start with a dominant display against Southampton. Dejan Kulusevski was the star of the game, getting a goal and an assist as Antonio Conte’s men came back from a deficit to win at home.

Newcastle United capped off an impressive opening day fixture against Nottingham Forest, with a 2-0 win. Fabian Schar scored a screamer from 20 yards out, and Callum Wilson scored with the outside of his boot to give his side the win.

Bournemouth surprised Aston Villa in their first match back, as Kieffer Moore and Jefferson Lerma starred in the win against Villa.

Leeds had much work to do as they fended off a positive display from Wolves at Elland Road, and scraped to a 2-1 victory. New signing Brendan Aaronson forced an own goal from Ryan Ait Nouri own goal to get the winner.

And lastly, Chelsea were able to end their winless run at Goodison with a narrow 1-0 win. Jorginho scored from the penalty spot to earn all three points for the London club at Goodison.
