Manchester United or Arsenal: Who had the better season in 2022/23?

Manchester United and Arsenal have both qualified for the Champions League next season, the first time both teams have qualified together in eight years. However, the jury is still out about who had the better season between the two rivals.

Erik Ten Hag ended his side’s six year trophy drought by guiding them to the 2023 Carabao Cup. Moreover, they have the chance to make it a domestic double when they take on their rivals Manchester City in the finals of the FA Cup.

In the Europa League, United were eliminated by Sevilla in the quarter finals. Arsenal, on the other hand, bowed out in the Round of 16 on penalties in spite of being one of the favourites to win the competition.

Mikel Arteta’s side came up short in both domestic cup competitions, and it was quite clear that their main focus was on the Premier League. However, they lost out on the league title to Manchester City as well, in spite of having an eight-point lead not too long ago.

The injury to William Saliba proved to be critical for Arsenal, as their defensive solidity took a huge blow. And as a result, they dropped a huge number of points that they were expected to pick up comfortably. And this allowed a flawless Manchester City to swoop in and claim their third straight Premier League title.

Mukesh Ambani now reportedly eyeing buying Arsenal Football Club

In terms of silverware, Manchester United clearly had the better season. Arsenal went for the big prize, but ended up finishing second in the table while having no trophies. But, they have a very young and talented squad which is expected to compete for the title again in the years to come.

The Gunners played a very attractive brand of football, and were consistent throughout the season. But they failed to keep it going in the final stage of the season. And it ended up costing them the league. Both clubs have a big summer transfer window and new season coming up, where they will be expected to build on what has already been achieved.
