Rennes youngster Mathys Tel is set to join Bayern Munich in the coming days, with a medical scheduled for his transfer. The two clubs have reached an agreement over the transfer fee, and only the formalities remain for the move to be made official.
The German side will be paying €20 million up-front plus €8.5 million in add-ons for the player. The contract agreed between the player and Bayern is a five-year deal, until 2027.
Julian Nagelsmann praises Mathys Tel as new signing
“He could become one of the best strikers one day. I have the vision that he can score 40 goals one day. But I would be happy with 10 goals in his first season,” Nagelsmann told reporters.
“He’s a young, talented player. He can play in multiple positions: as a centre-forward and on the wings. He’s very quick and strong with his body. He can hold up the ball well with his back to the goal.”
“We’re looking for young players that we can develop into world-class players, and he could be one of those,” Nagelsmann added
At 17, the chances that Mathys Tel will be the direct replacement for Robert Lewandowski are slim. However, he could be eased into the role given that Bayern consider him a top talent for the future. They have already signed Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui, Sadio Mane and Matthijs De Ligt this summer, and the Frenchman is next.
