Chhatisgarh’s Government passes electric vehicle-friendly policy with an aim to position itself as a manufacturing hub

Chattisgarh’s government on the 7th of July approved its electric vehicle policy that focuses on developing the state into a manufacturing hub for such vehicles while protecting the environment and creating numerous jobs in the process.

Buying an electric vehicle will get cheaper in Chattisgarh:

The latest policy aims to completely waive road tax and registration fees for electric cars which makes sure that people do not have to cry over petrol prices anymore. The ‘Chattisgarh EV Policy 2022’ was granted during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at his official residence.

“Chhatisgarh will become a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles and their accessories in the coming years. The policy will create unlimited employment opportunities for the youth. The decision will also benefit buyers and manufacturers of electric vehicles and people engaged in research and development work in the sector,” the Chief Minister quoted.

The policy aims to ensure a healthy environment for a sustainable future for its citizens, reduce the overall carbon footprint and minimize the causes of rising concerns of rapidly increasing toxic gas emissions from all its vehicles. Commercial, as well as other non-commercial electric vehicles, will be encouraged under the new policy.

“The Government has set a target of five years and aims to have 15% of new registrations of vehicles, either under individual use or commercial as electric vehicles till 2027,” the policy mentions. The government has announced a waiver in registration fees on the sale of EVs registered during the policy period.

There will be a complete road tax exemption on all EVs that will be bought during the first two years from the date of the commencement of this policy. The Government has announced a waiver on registration fees as well.

In addition to all this, the electric vehicles registered will get an exemption on road tax for two years. The State has granted a 50 percent exemption for electric vehicles that will be purchased in the next two years. In the fifth year, there will be a rebate of up to 25 percent rebate as per the official brochure.

In order to develop electric vehicles, the State will grant nearly 25 percent of the cost of equipment and the plant required. It will allot 500-1,000 acres of land to develop an EV park to catch the eye of manufacturers.

“The state government will provide a capital subsidy of 25 percent to the selected energy operators on charging equipment/machinery to the first 300 fast-charging stations commissioned in the state up to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh per station,” and the stat has also provisioned SGST returns for the manufacture of EVs in the state during the official policy period of 2027

The government will also be offering an SGST reimbursement to energy operators who buy batteries to be used in switching and swapping stations. 100 percent SGST will be reimbursed to those who purchase electric buses and freight vehicles provided that they are registered in the state only.

An SGST reimbursement will also be offered to energy operators who buy batteries for purposes of switching and swapping stations. Charging Stations will also be built in the government and private buildings as per the release.
