Top 5 Best Heroes to Counter Wolverine!

It seems like every time I jump into Marvel Rivals, there’s always that one player running it—and for good reason. He’s a regenerating menace, often dubbed the “tank killer,” and his Regenerative Healing Factor can single-handedly turn the tide of battle. If you’ve ever watched him shrug off a barrage of attacks while your team scrambles for answers, you know exactly how dangerous Logan can be.

Fear not, fellow Summons. I’ve pieced together my personal top 5 best heroes to counter Wolverine. These picks, gleaned from countless matches and a few comedic near-misses, will help you quell the chaos that is a rampaging Wolverine.

Why Is Wolverine So Tough?

Wolverine owes his infamy to his Regenerative Healing Factor. Lore-accurate and annoyingly effective, it keeps him alive through scenarios that should spell doom for any normal hero. Factor in his high mobility and consistent damage output, and you’ve got a near-perfect storm of deadly potential. This is why counters must be:

Capable of dealing burst or sustained damage.
Skilled at neutralizing or debilitating Wolverine’s aggression.
Prepared with some form of crowd control or anti-heal whenever possible.

Here is the List of the Top 5 Best Heroes to Counter Wolverine:

1) Magik

Let’s begin with an absolute fan favorite. Magik excels at shredding Wolverine because of two big reasons:

Soulsword: This primary attack deals hefty damage, enough to cut Logan down to size even after his healing factor kicks in.
Limbo’s Might: Don’t underestimate Magik’s passive. She gains bonus health from the damage she deals, letting her stay in combat longer while Wolverine’s healing struggles to keep pace.

Magik also thrives when both heroes are low on health—Wolverine deals less damage to such targets, but Magik remains an ever-present threat thanks to her lifesteal-like sustain. This dynamic often turns a duel in her favor.

2) Hela

Known as the Goddess of Death, Hela packs a punch that can poke holes in Wolverine’s defenses. Key points include:

Nightsword Thorn: Her primary move, combining brutal damage with a ranged advantage. She can stay aerial for extended periods, forcing Wolverine to burn leaps to reach her.
Soul Drainer & Astral Flock: A one-two combo that stuns him if he closes in, then allows Hela to zip away. Wolverine’s infiltration is worthless if he’s locked down—and that’s exactly what Hela does best.

If you prefer a bold, high-damage approach with quick escapes up your sleeve, Hela is a phenomenal pick.

3) Mantis

You read that right: Mantis. While she’s often labeled a support due to her consistent healing, Mantis offers more offensive might than people give her credit for.

Healing Flower: Mantis keeps teammates—or herself—topped up, making it far harder for Wolverine to secure kills. Even if he tries his “tank killer” routine, Mantis’s healing can offset a lot of it.
Natural Anger: Great for surprising Logan with unexpected bursts. Pair her with fellow damage dealers, and she morphs into a synergy monster.
Spore Slumber: Possibly her best weapon versus Wolverine. She can sedate him for 3.5 seconds, leaving him wide open for a coordinated takedown.

Mantis demands Wolverine approach combat more cautiously—if he rushes in, he might just get put to sleep.

4) Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch might not top a Duelist tier list, but when set up correctly, she can keep Wolverine at arm’s length.

Dark Seal: Strategically placing this skill can cut off crucial entry paths, undermining Wolverine’s go-to diving tactics. Keep him guessing, and he loses a sizable advantage.
Mystic Projection: One of the game’s best escape abilities. Even if Wolverine lands a sniff of a kill, Wanda can vanish and reappear elsewhere, effectively resetting the engagement.

Use her to set traps and punish Logan’s aggression. The combination of damage, area denial, and a swift escape can be lethal in the right hands.

5) Namor

The Sub-Mariner might be the last hero Logan wants to see across the battlefield. Here’s why:

Trident of Neptune + Wrath of the Seven Seas: This duo can deal incredible burst, enough to chunk Wolverine down before he regenerates too much.
Horn of Proteus: Wolverine’s movement-based abilities are a huge part of his kit. By disabling them, Namor strips away Logan’s mobility advantage, drastically reducing his threat level.
Frozen Spawns Synergy: If you pair Namor with Luna Snow, her slows can further hamper Wolverine’s attempts to close in.

Ultimately, Namor is a strong Duelist who can keep Wolverine from dictating battle tempo and swiftly punish any mistakes.

Conclusion

Wolverine thrives on punishing the slow and heavily armored—basically, he’s at his best shredding big targets. So if you’re heading into a match, think twice about bringing too many Vanguards. Instead, pick agile damage-dealers or experts in crowd control. Even if Wolverine does manage to corner one of your backliners, timely stuns or escapes can spell doom for him.

FAQs

Q1. Which hero is the absolute best at shutting down Wolverine?

All five options shine in different situations. However, Magik stands out thanks to her lifesteal and consistent damage, making her duels against Wolverine extremely favorable. Hela, Mantis, Scarlet Witch, and Namor each excel in different team compositions.

Q2. Are there other less common picks to consider?

Some niche heroes or abilities (like Magneto’s Mag-Cannon or Peni Parker’s Arachno-Mine) can briefly handle Wolverine. That said, they’re not as reliable as the five counters mentioned above and typically require more precise timing or synergy to match them.
With these five heroes and tips at your disposal, Wolverine won’t be steamrolling your team any time soon. In a game as dynamic as Marvel Rivals, counter-picking is an art—and you’re now well on your way to mastering it. Good luck out there, Summons, and don’t forget to stay agile!
