According to Steam’s latest Hardware Survey, NVIDIA has retained the top rankings on the mid-range to high-end GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs. With the recent improvements in pricing in the graphics card industry, the poll results were encouraging. Along with NVIDIA’s graphics cards, Hexa-core processors have trounced quad-core processors, knocking them out of first place.

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 and 3070 graphics cards have the highest market share on Steam. Following these cards are the RTX 3060 and the GTX 1070, both of which are rather old GPUs but still excellent for most budget-conscious audiences and are usually a smart choice for reselling to an upgraded graphics card.

Despite the fact that graphics card prices have been reduced across the board, sales are still slow as users wait for further cost reductions. Users may also wait until the second half of the year to purchase next-gen hardware at potentially lower prices, as newer cards will be released later in the year. Despite this, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1650, GTX 1050 Ti, and RTX 2060 remain the most popular graphics cards on Steam, with over 5% market share. This is owing to the cards’ widespread availability and affordable rates. The RTX 3060 is still lagging behind its Turing-based predecessor in terms of market share.

When it came to CPUs, 8 and 6 core chips outscored quad-core chips by a wide margin. Since quad-core chips still maintain a huge 33 per cent market share, it could be months, if not years, before octa-core chips or other technologies make a surge as the standard in the PC marketplace. However, 6-core chips have clearly outpaced 4-core offers, establishing the new standard for PC gaming.

AMD saw a 1.24 percent increase in CPU consumption among Steam users, whereas Intel saw a similar drop. Intel CPUs currently have a 67.19 percent market share on Steam, while AMD has a 32.80 per cent market share. However, it is unsurprising to see Apple and their new M1 offering more macOS hardware utilisation. Apple Silicon has 40% of the current OSX market share as of this writing.
