iOS 15 is now on 72% of iPhones from the last four years

Every year, Apple releases new iOS updates for its users and with each major release you get a bunch of new features that make your life easier and better. While iOS 14 is already good, the newer iOS 15 of last year took things to next level as Apple changed its focus to making its security functionality top-notch.

So, naturally, a lot of users have already switched to the new iOS 15 and as per the latest reports as much as 72% of iPhones from the last four years now use iOS 15. However, there are 26% of iPhones continue to use iOS 14, and 2% run an earlier version of ‌iOS 15.

Now, when counting the data for all iPhones released to date, 63% of them are running the latest ‌iOS 15‌ while 30% still run on iOS 14, and 7% run an earlier version of ‌iOS 15‌. As Apple has a 5-year update cycle, it’s highly likely that a lot of old iPhones have not received iOS 15 and use iOS 14 instead while others still using their older OS.

However, things look even more interesting when you see the numbers for iPads, as Apple shows only 57% of all iPads introduced in the last four years use the latest ‌iOS 15‌ while 39% of them still prefer using iOS 14 and 14% are running an earlier version of iOS.

This is kind of a wear situation as Macrumours says this is the lowest iOS adoption rate in years now. A lot of blame goes to Apple because it didn’t bring a lot of features it promised previously while some features like SharePlay and Digital Legacy are still in beta. Also, as Apple didn’t provide users with massive urgency to update to iOS 14, the iOS 15 adoption rates are so low.
