EA Sports has officially confirmed one of the most significant gameplay shake-ups in franchise history. With the full FC 27 Gameplay Deep Dive now released, the message is unmistakable: automation is out, and manual skill is back in the driver’s seat.
The Biggest Change: Defending Gets Harder
Auto-tackles have been removed entirely, and AI-controlled defenders will no longer automatically attempt to win the ball when an attacker gets close. Contain marking and defensive-third pressing have also been dialed back, putting far more responsibility on players to jockey, time tackles, and position themselves correctly rather than letting the AI bail them out.
EA FC 27 Gameplay: Key Gameplay Changes
| Feature | What’s Changing |
|---|---|
| Defending | Auto-tackles removed, AI defending nerfed |
| Passing & Crossing | Greater reliance on manual aim and timing |
| Attacking Runs | New curved run mechanics for creative build-up |
| Corner Kicks | Players can switch to intended receiver before delivery |
| PlayStyles | Rebalanced to favor raw attributes over automatic boosts |
| Off-Balance Dribbling | New Next-Gen mechanic rewarding Balance and Agility stats |
Raising the Skill Ceiling
Meta staples like Finesse Shot, Rapid, Pinged Pass and Low Driven have all been tweaked so that a player’s actual attributes matter more than simply owning a flashy badge. Meanwhile, corner kicks become genuinely interactive, letting players briefly shift the camera and choose their target before delivering the ball, rather than relying on automatic positioning.
A Next-Gen Exclusive Worth Watching
One standout addition, Off-Balance Dribbling, lets elite dribblers stumble through physical challenges without losing control, provided their Balance, Agility and Dribbling stats back it up — available only on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
Why It Matters
With less automation and more control across every phase of play, FC 27 is clearly designed to widen the skill gap between casual and elite players. Full technical details are available on the official EA Sports FC 27 gameplay page.
