Crunchyroll and TMS Announce Bananya Buddies Mobile Game and 10th Anniversary Anime Special

Crunchyroll, a global brand serving anime enthusiasts, and TMS Entertainment, a prominent Japanese animation studio, have announced the upcoming release of “Bananya Buddies,” an original mobile game, alongside a “Bananya 10th Anniversary” anime special. These initiatives mark a significant expansion of the popular Bananya franchise.

Crunchyroll “Bananya Buddies” Mobile Game Details

“Bananya Buddies,” a mobile game centered on collecting cat characters from the *Bananya* anime shorts, is slated for release this summer. It will be exclusively available on Crunchyroll Game Vault. Pre-registration for the game is currently open on Google Play, with an App Store release planned for a later date.

Developed in collaboration with independent studio The MIX, “Bananya Buddies” is designed to allow players to engage with the banana-dwelling cats. The game incorporates mini-games, a reward system, and customization options for a virtual “Bananya hangout pad.” Key gameplay elements include:
* **Bananya Planet:** Players interact with visitors and earn in-game currency through various mini-games.
* **Interactive Items:** Providing toys and treats to Bananyas increases their “Buddy Points,” encouraging longer stays and gift exchanges.
* **Relationship Progression:** Achieving “Best Buddies” status enables “sleepovers,” with further engagement unlocking “Best Buddies Forever” benefits.

The game will support multiple languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, and Spanish (Spain). Access to “Bananya Buddies” will be limited to Crunchyroll Mega and Ultimate Fan members in over 200 countries and territories as part of the Crunchyroll Game Vault’s content offering.

Bananya 10th Anniversary Anime Special

The “Bananya 10th Anniversary Anime Special” is scheduled for its world premiere at Anime Expo on July 4, precisely a decade after the original series first aired. The special will then become available for streaming on Crunchyroll starting July 9.

The anime special introduces a new narrative that sees a protagonist entering a world populated by banana-dwelling cats, potentially transforming into a Bananya, and embarking on a quest for missing treasures. It features a new theme song, “nyanderful nyanderland,” performed by TAMAchan with Yuki Kaji providing a character voice. The Japanese voice cast includes Atsumi Tanezaki as Stray Bananya, Yuina Ito as Little Bananya, and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Tall Bananya.

These releases are integral to the broader 10th-anniversary celebrations for the *Bananya* series, which will also encompass merchandise, events, and other promotional projects throughout the year. Additional details regarding these celebratory activities will be disseminated through the official TMS Entertainment and Bananya channels.

Franchise Expansion and Availability

The original *Bananya* series, alongside *Bananya and the Curious Bunch* and *Bananya Around the World*, is currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll (https://www.crunchyroll.com/). This strategic expansion into mobile gaming and new anime content underscores Crunchyroll’s efforts to diversify its platform and enhance engagement with its global subscriber base.
