Sunday. Night shows. Rs 63 crore on the board. Welcome to the Jungle has closed its opening weekend on a decent note — and more importantly, on a trajectory that gives its makers genuine reasons to smile. The film isn’t setting the box office on fire, but it’s doing what a well-liked comedy should: hold steady, grow day-on-day, and build word of mouth through the weekend.
The question now is whether it can keep that energy alive when the weekday grind begins.
Welcome to the Jungle India Opening Weekend — Day-by-Day Breakdown
| Day | India Nett Collection |
|---|---|
| Previews | Rs 3.75 crore |
| Friday (Day 1) | Rs 15.25 crore |
| Saturday (Day 2) | Rs 20.00 crore |
| Sunday (Day 3) | Rs 24.00 crore (est.) |
| Opening Weekend Total | Rs 63.00 crore nett |
Better Than Bhooth Bangla — But Not Everywhere
The headline comparison for trade analysts this week is with Akshay Kumar’s previous comedy hit Bhooth Bangla. Welcome to the Jungle’s opening weekend was 13% higher overall — with Friday running 25% ahead (aided by some holiday footfall), while Saturday and Sunday were both approximately 10% higher.

The geographic story is revealing. The film performed significantly better than Bhooth Bangla in the Hindi belt — Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh — along with Gujarat. Maharashtra and Delhi-NCR were broadly on par. However, Delhi-NCR was impacted by a slightly smaller release due to competition from holdover titles and Punjabi comedy Carry on Jatta 4, which also ate into Welcome’s numbers in East Punjab — costing it an estimated Rs 35-40 lakh nett on Sunday alone and close to Rs 1 crore over the full weekend.
The one market that disappointed relative to Bhooth Bangla was West Bengal, where the horror-comedy genre tends to overperform. That’s a gap the team would have hoped to avoid.
Is It on Track to Be a HIT?
The weekend trend has set the film up well. If it follows the Bhooth Bangla post-weekend trajectory — which added approximately Rs 48 crore nett after the second week — Welcome to the Jungle can realistically cross the success threshold.
But here’s the complication: in Week 3, it faces direct competition from another franchise comedy, which could significantly dent its momentum at exactly the moment it needs consistency. How well it holds against that rival release will be the defining factor between a “success” and a full-blown “HIT.”
