Raja Shivaji has rewritten Marathi box office history on Day 1, leaving every previous record far behind and signaling a potential blockbuster in the making.

Let’s be honest — nobody expected a Marathi film to open quite like this. Riteish Deshmukh’s passion project, Raja Shivaji, didn’t just perform well on its opening day — it absolutely demolished every record that came before it. And it wasn’t even close.

Raja Shivaji: Day 1 Numbers That Tell the Story

Raja Shivaji collected approximately Rs. 13.75–14 crore on its opening day across India — with roughly Rs. 9.75–10 crore coming from the original Marathi version and around Rs. 4 crore from the Hindi version.

Version	Opening Day Collection
Marathi (original)	~Rs. 9.75–10 crore
Hindi dubbed	~Rs. 4 crore (Rs. 3.25 crore nett)
Maharashtra total	~Rs. 10.75–11 crore
India total	~Rs. 13.75–14 crore

A Record That Stood for a Decade — Shattered

The previous best opening day for a Marathi film belonged to the beloved Sairat (2016) at Rs. 3.60 crore. Raja Shivaji didn’t just beat that — it obliterated it, making it comfortably the biggest opening ever for a Marathi film.

That’s nearly 4x the previous record. Let that sink in.

Marathi cinema, known for its rich storytelling tradition, has been steadily growing its box office footprint — and Raja Shivaji feels like the moment it truly arrived on a pan-India scale.

How Does It Stack Up Against Maharashtra’s All-Time Best?

The biggest single opening day in Maharashtra belongs to Dhurandhar: The Revenge at around Rs. 22 crore, with Pushpa 2 and Chhaava following at Rs. 18 crore and Rs. 17 crore respectively. Raja Shivaji’s overall Maharashtra haul of Rs. 16 crore puts it right in that elite company.

For a Marathi-language film — not a Hindi masala blockbuster — this is genuinely staggering.

The shortfall compared to the top films was mainly in Mumbai city, where a significant Hindi and Gujarati-speaking population naturally dilutes the dominance of Marathi films. The rest of Maharashtra performed on par with Pushpa 2 and Chhaava’s opening days.

Can It Beat Sairat’s Lifetime? The Odds Look Good

The highest-grossing Marathi film of all time remains Sairat at around Rs. 100 crore lifetime. Raja Shivaji appears highly favoured to surpass it. Given the strong opening and the historical trend of Marathi films holding well over multiple weeks, this could be a genuine landmark moment for the industry.
