If you thought the FTX cryptocurrency collapse couldn’t get more dramatic — wait until Netflix turns it into an 8-episode limited series. The Altruists is coming, and with Julia Garner leading the charge, this might just be the most talked-about show of late 2026.
What is The Altruists about?
Netflix describes it as the story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison — two hyper-smart young idealists who tried to reshape global finance and ended up stealing $8 billion. It’s part love story, part financial thriller, and entirely based on real events that shook the world.
The series is co-created by Graham Moore (Oscar-winning writer of The Imitation Game) and Jacqueline Hoyt, with the first episode directed by James Ponsoldt. Netflix optioned multiple New York Magazine investigative pieces on SBF as source material — so expect depth.
